Journeyman Welder
The Journeyman Welder interprets fabrication drawings, sketches and welding specs to produce or repair various parts and equipment, as well as undertakes the set-up, general maintenance and operation of various welding machines. The Journeyman Welder also performs different types of welding processes (GMAW, FCAW, etc.) and uses various shop equipment, machinery and hand tools to achieve the final product. This position requires safe work practices at all times and adherence to the ISO 9001 and CWB Quality System guidelines.

Core Duties
Daily Operations.

Mentor Apprentice Welders.

Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and safety procedures.

Utilize layout tools such as calipers, ruler, square etc. to position parts prior to welding.

Prepare and setup necessary tools and equipment for welding jobs.

Maintain and operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse, fabricate or repair metal parts.

Operate flame-cutting equipment, plasma torch, pneumatic tools, power tools (e.g. handgrinders, drills), various hand tools, hoisting/lifting equipment and metal shaping machines to produce final product.

Check layout against drawing/sketch for accuracy before welding parts to createassemblies.

Examine welds to identify defects and measure finished products with appropriate tools or templates to ensure conformance with drawings/specifications.

Identify faulty/damaged equipment and/or defective materials and inform supervisor of problem.





Review work procedures, in conjunction with PSI, for specific tools/equipment or task.

Interpret and continually refer to diagrams and tables on drawings to determine material requirements and measurements; the type, size, location and starting position of welds; the welding process; and other engineering requirements.

Complete various documents to facilitate quality control for ISO 9001 and CWB Quality system requirements; inspections and all required paperwork on a daily basis, including PSI and Daily Job Control Sheets recording information such as the job number, taskdescription, welding machine ID number and time spent on each task.

Perform different types of welding processes (GMAW, FCAW etc.) in flat, vertical oroverhead positions as required Participate in daily Tool Box talks.

Other Duties

Operate other machines such as shear and brake machine as needed.

Sort through and salvage left over materials where possible after job completion.

Perform routine housekeeping duties in the shop and yard cleanup/maintenance as directed by the Shop Manager.

Cooperate with Training department for scheduling of recent/recertification training.

Observe all safety procedures and use proper Personal Protective Equipment.

Ensure all Ketek’s work procedures, policies and Occupational Health and Safety.

Qualifications and Skills
Required

Journeyman Welding certificate with minimum one-year experience.

Fluent in the English language (reading, written, spoken).





Able to demonstrate good hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Easily read, evaluate, and respond to product specifications and drawings, and perform normal math calculations.

Familiar and comfortable with various saws, grinders and other hand tools.

Familiar and comfortable with manufacturing and welding machinery.

Able to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.

Ability to handle changing schedules and priorities, with high level prioritization skills.

Strong work ethic and organizational planning skills with attention to detail.

Preferred

CWB Certification – all positions .

Forklift experience.

Fall Protection experience.

AWP experience.

Overhead Crane experience.

Experience with flux core, aluminum, stainless and other materials.

Working Conditions:
Physical Demand

Regularly required to stand/sit, talk/hear, stoop, climb, lift, balance, kneel and use ofhands/fingers to operate tools, machinery and materials.

Moderate to heavy lifting (up to 50lbs) may be required.

Use of mechanical aids: overhead crane, forklift, pallet jack, and dolly may be required .

Occasional exposure to welder arc.

Regular exposure to loud noises and metal particulates - hearing and respiratoryprotection is provided when needed.

Potential exposure to acetylene gas, fumes, oil, and paint residue.

Exposure to sharp edges, pinch points, trip and slip hazards, and blind spots.

May be required to work in high, precarious places that are near moving parts and/orelectrical works or in confined spaces.

Work Environment

Yard and shop environment (100%).

May be required to work weekends and outside of regular office hours.

May be required to work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and heat.

A weld test may be required for this position**
