Occupational Therapist I As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member.
You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity, and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations.
As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation,
assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client’s physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation.
You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support, and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and the skilled community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.
Occupational Therapist II As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned.
As an Occupational Therapist II,
you will work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will make day-to-day clinical decisions regarding patient and family needs related to assessment, intervention, discharge, and follow-up.
You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient, and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and aligned with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, the Code of Ethics, and AHS policies and guidelines.
You will coordinate the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitor care delivery, identify service needs, and assist other medical staff with caseload management. You will also complete chart audits and provide follow-up and feedback to staff.
You will participate in program development and operational planning and represent the department on committees or programs. You will make decisions regarding staffing level requirements, workflow, and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers.
As assigned, you will carry out the roles of direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator, and/or advocate within your program or service area.
Qualifications Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).
