Amazon Web Services (AWS) is expanding its Infrastructure Operations team and is looking for a Data Center Technician to join its growing team in Varennes, Quebec . About the Role: Data Center Technician As a Data Center Technician at AWS in Varennes, you'll be responsible for maintaining the availability and reliability of data centre operations. Day-to-day work spans server break-fix , network device repair , power and cooling event participation , and network connection troubleshooting . You'll also install equipment, produce technical documentation, and help develop innovative solutions to challenges within the data centre environment.
The team operates in a 24/7 environment , and you'll be expected to participate in on-call rotation , provide after-hours support when needed, and respond to high-severity events within defined service level agreements . Some travel may be required. Solid organizational skills , clear communication, and the ability to prioritize under pressure are key to succeeding in this role. Please note that the successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Canadian Personnel Security Clearance as a condition of employment, which includes continuous Canadian residency of at least five years.
Benefits and Salary AWS offers a starting wage of $32.93 to $42.16 CAD per hour for this position. Total compensation may also include shift premiums ,
overtime , and performance bonuses where applicable, with the final rate based on factors such as shift selection, work location, and experience. Responsibilities In this role, you'll be hands-on with critical infrastructure that powers some of the world's most important cloud services. Your work ensures that data centre uptime, reliability, and performance meet or exceed AWS's demanding service level commitments. Each shift brings a mix of planned tasks and unplanned events that require quick thinking and technical know-how.
Provide onsite coverage as part of a team through shift rotations and/or weekly on-call schedules
Respond to high-severity events within defined service level agreements to minimize impact and restore operations
Participate in data centre power and cooling events , ensuring infrastructure stability during critical situations
Perform break-fix on servers and network devices, diagnosing and repairing hardware faults efficiently
Troubleshoot network connections to identify and resolve connectivity issues across the data centre
Install equipment and produce accurate technical documentation to support ongoing operations
Coordinate and build relationships with various internal data centre teams and interact with third-party vendors and contractors
Identify process improvements and contribute to the development and growth of other team members
Requirements / Skills AWS is looking for candidates who are technically grounded, self-directed, and comfortable working in a demanding, round-the-clock environment. You should be comfortable working both autonomously and within a team, and bring a genuine interest in data centre infrastructure and continuous improvement. 1+ year of server hardware troubleshooting and repair experience , or equivalent computer hardware troubleshooting experience
1+ year of network and operating system support experience
High school diploma or equivalent ; an academic program in Canada in computer science, engineering, machine learning or related fields, or an Associate's degree or above with Amazon work experience, is also accepted
Experience in data centre operations or mission-critical facilities , or experience reading and writing procedures, technical documents, and engineering drawings
Physical capability to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 lbs and participate in group lifts for 41+ lbs, and ability to work in elevated locations
Ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian Personnel Security Clearance , including five years of continuous Canadian residency
Preferred: 2+ years of data centre or critical environment experience , knowledge of Linux/UNIX operating systems, network design including routing protocols and topology, storage device experience, and familiarity with ticket-driven workloads
High school diploma or equivalent; academic program in Canada in computer science, machine learning, engineering or related fields, or an Associate's degree or above with Amazon work experience; ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian Personnel Security Clearance; five years of continuous Canadian residency to obtain required clearance.
