Métaux Produits D.T., a leader in metal processing since 1986, is looking for talented individuals who share our passion for innovation and precision. The company emphasizes teamwork, innovation, and excellence in its operations.

Responsibilities

A TIG welder (GTAW – Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) is a skilled craftsperson specializing in joining metals by fusion, using a non-consumable tungsten electrode and an inert gas to protect the weld pool. This role requires great dexterity, attention to detail, and in-depth knowledge of materials.

Here are the main responsibilities of a TIG welder:

Reading and interpreting plans and specifications: Understanding technical drawings, welding symbols, dimensional tolerances, and quality requirements for each joint to be welded.

Part preparation: Cleaning, degreasing, and preparing the edges of the parts to be welded (chamfering, sanding) to ensure adequate penetration and a high-quality weld. Positioning and securing parts (tacking, clamping) to maintain exact alignment during welding.

TIG equipment setup: Configuring welding parameters (amperage, gas type and flow rate, polarity, tungsten electrode type and diameter) based on the material, thickness, and joint type.

Welding execution: Applying the TIG welding technique with precision, controlling the arc, weld pool, and filler metal (if necessary)

to create continuous, uniform, and defect-free welds. This requires excellent hand-eye coordination and high concentration.

Quality control: Visually inspecting welds to detect common defects (porosity, cracks, overlaps, lack of penetration) and ensuring they meet quality standards and customer specifications.

Maintenance of the “equipment: Performing basic maintenance of the” welding equipment (torch cleaning, tungsten sharpening, checking gas and electrical connections).

Adherence to safety standards: Strictly applying all welding-related safety procedures (wearing personal protective equipment – welding helmet, gloves, flame-retardant clothing, respiratory protection) and ensuring adequate ventilation.

Material knowledge: Mastering the properties of various metals and alloys, including stainless steel, aluminum, carbon steels, titanium, etc., and understanding how they react to the TIG welding process.

Defect correction: Performing touch-ups or repairs if defects are identified, following rework procedures.

The TIG welder is a key player in the manufacturing of high-precision components and critical assemblies, particularly where weld aesthetics and integrity are paramount.
