TheCityofOwenSoundisseekingamotivatedandsafety-focusedprofessionaltojoinourWater&Wastewaterteamasa; WaterDistributionOperator .ReportingtotheWaterDistributionSuperintendentandreceivingdailydirectionfromtheWaterDistributionLeadHand,thispositionplaysacriticalroleindeliveringsafe,reliabledrinkingwatertoourcommunitythroughtheoperation,maintenance,andrepairoftheCity'swaterdistributioninfrastructure.
Thispositionisresponsibleformaintainingwaterdistributionassets,respondingtoemergenciesandcustomerconcerns,participatinginon-calloperations,andensuringcompliancewithprovincialregulationsandindustrybestpractices.Thispositionisbeingpostedforanexistingvacancy.
WhatYou’llDo WaterDistributionOperations&Maintenance; Operate,maintain,andrepairwaterdistributioninfrastructure,includingwatermains,valves,hydrants,waterservices,pressureregulatingvalves,andwatermeters.
Install,inspect,andmaintainfirehydrantsandassociatedinfrastructure.
Troubleshootandrepairwaterleaksthroughoutthedistributionsystem.
Assistwithinspectionsandroutineoperationsatreservoirs,pumpingstations,valvechambers,andtheWaterTreatmentPlant.
Participateinplannedmaintenanceactivitiesandemergencysystemshutdownsorbypassesasrequired.
EquipmentOperation&InfrastructureSupport; Safelyoperateequipmentandvehiclesusedinwaterdistributionmaintenance,includingbackhoes,dumptrucks,tappingmachines,leakdetectionequipment,andutilitylocatingequipment.
Locateundergroundwaterinfrastructure,streetlighting,andtrafficsignalassets.
Assistwithwintermaintenanceofhydrants,includingsnowclearingandinspections.
Performtrafficcontrolactivitiesandroadclosurecoordinationasrequired.
Supportsnowclearingoperationsonsidewalksandroadwayswhenneeded.
CustomerService&EmergencyResponse; Respondtocustomerinquiriesandservicerequestsrelatedtoflooding,waterserviceinterruptions,leaks,lowpressure,frozenservices,andotherdistributionconcerns.
Participateinarotatingon-callscheduletorespondtoafter-hoursemergencies.
Assistinmaintainingreliablewaterserviceduringemergenciesandplannedmaintenanceactivities.
Workcollaborativelywithcontractors,Citystaff,regulatoryofficials,andthepublic.




Compliance,Documentation&AssetManagement; Maintainaccuratelogs,records,servicecards,fieldnotes,anddistributionsystemdocumentation.
UpdateGISrecordsanddistributionsysteminformationwheninfrastructurechangesoccur.
Completerequiredregulatoryandoperationaldocumentation.
ParticipateinongoingtrainingandcertificationrequirementsinaccordancewithProvincialregulations.
SupportcontinuousimprovementandassetmanagementinitiativeswithintheWaterDistributionSystem.

WhatWe’reLookingFor Education&Experience; CollegeDiplomainarelatedfield,orGrade12diplomacombinedwithrelevantexperienceandcertification.
MinistryoftheEnvironmentWaterDistributionSystemOperatorCertification.
WaterDistributionLevelIICertificationorhigherispreferred.
Previousexperienceworkinginamunicipalwaterdistributionenvironment.
Experienceoperatingconstructionandmaintenanceequipmentrelatedtowaterdistributionsystems.
Skills&Competencies; ValidClassDZDriver'sLicence.
Knowledgeofwaterdistributionsystems,infrastructuremaintenancepractices,andregulatoryrequirements.
Knowledgeofundergroundutilitiesandconstructiontechniques.
