Supervised Behaviour and Safety Consultant

REPORTS TO: Chief Psychologist
SALARY: $54,556 - $70,301 ** this positions wage is under review**

FTE: 1.0 FTE (35 hours per week)

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Chief Psychologist, the incumbent supports protected learning
environments and assists with developing and translating behaviour recommendations
into practical school implementation, under the clinical supervision of a regulated member
of the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Completed a three (3) year Child and Youth Worker or Behavioural Science Technology
Diploma from a recognized Community College, or an equivalent program.
Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years related work experience is required.
Current certification in Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) or a comparable
behaviour management/crisis intervention program is an asset.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills Required:
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work both independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Ability to take the initiative and exercise good judgement when making decisions.
Good problem-solving skills with the ability to think analytically.
Effective communication skills, both verbally and written.
Proficient in the use of MS applications and applicable technology and software used by the Board.
Strong interpersonal skills with a strong client and quality focus.
Demonstrated skills working with children and youth with behaviour, social-emotional, and self-regulation needs.
Ability to develop, organize, and facilitate workshops/training sessions for various groups.
Ability to respect the confidentiality of information and the various legal, ethical, and professional obligations governing behaviour practices in Ontario, including privacy and confidentiality requirements, informed consent, documentation standards, record storage and retention, mandatory reporting responsibilities, and any applicable legislation and professional standards.
Ability to travel to various schools and worksites throughout the day, sometimes under short notice.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Maintains a caseload of students requiring positive behaviour supports, safety planning, stabilization, and individualized behaviour consultation to promote student success, enhance successful school participation, and reduce behaviour risks in accordance with UCDSB priorities and service delivery guidelines.
Provides consultation and recommendations using trauma-informed and positive behaviour support approaches, with an emphasis on environmental supports, prevention, skill promotion, and behaviour stabilization, rather than systematic ABA skill acquisition or programming.
Conducts classroom observations, environmental assessments, staff interviews, and reviews of student and school factors to identify behaviour support needs, safety risks, and support priorities.
Provides leadership in Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) practices and supports school teams in the development, implementation, and review of student-specific safety planning strategies.
Provides follow-up consultation, coaching, and debriefing following safety-related incidents to support reflection, problem-solving, and continuous improvement of school-based supports.
Builds the capacity of educators and school teams through consultation, coaching, modelling, and recommendations related to positive behaviour supports, trauma-informed practices, self-regulation, environmental design, and general classroom management strategies.
Participates in ongoing clinical supervision and professional consultation to ensure accountability, evidence-informed practice, and continuous professional growth.
Provides crisis response support to schools and the Board, in collaboration with other UCDSB teams and appropriate professionals.
Maintains accurate, timely, and professional documentation in accordance with UCDSB procedures, privacy legislation, professional standards, and record retention requirements.
Demonstrates responsive practices that reflect multiple cultural and social perspectives and are respectful of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Practices in accordance with applicable legislation, Board policies, professional standards, ethical guidelines, and the requirements of various regulatory and/or professional body, where applicable.
Travels extensively throughout UCDSB to provide consultation, coaching, training, crisis support, and behaviour services to students and school teams.
Performs other related professional duties, as assigned.
Supervision:
This role does not supervise other staff members.
Effort Required (Physical & Mental):
Work requires minimal manual effort or physical exertion i.e. prolonged sitting.
Light manual effort is required for the transporting of materials to and from the regional office to various school sites.
Moderately increased concentration level required for analytical activities and reporting tasks. Activities require concentrated efforts such as purposeful listening, interpreting, performing observations and assessments and reviewing documentation.
Some stress may occur related to the interaction with small group settings (i.e. parents and committees). Occasionally, responses from students are unpredictable due to behavioral challenges.
Working Conditions:
Work environment varies from educational centre office to school settings. Extended periods of time in front of a computer terminal.
