Primary focus is instrumentation, calibration, measurement and test-support work on servo-hydraulic structural test systems.
Role also carries a defined secondary responsibility for supporting test-control, data-acquisition and operational-technology (OT) systems that those tests depend on, working alongside Test Specialists, Electrical Engineers and Corporate IT.
Position Summary
• Provides instrumentation, electrical, calibration, metrology, quality-system support to the Test Department, in close collaboration with Test Specialists, Senior Electrical Engineer.
• Ensures measurement systems are accurate, traceable, standards-compliant and suitable for development, qualification, certification, production and customer-witness testing.
• Provides day-to-day support, first-line troubleshooting for test-control and data-acquisition systems used to run structural and servo-hydraulic tests, escalating deeper configuration, lifecycle work as needed.
• May also support selected production electrical tooling repair, calibration activities, in coordination with system-integration engineers.
Primary Responsibilities — Instrumentation, Calibration & Metrology
Core of role
Hands-on instrumentation, calibration, measurement and fabrication
Instrumentation & Test Support
• Provide electrical and instrumentation support to all test activities across development, qualification, certification and production programs.
• Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair instrumentation,
control wiring and data-acquisition systems.
• Work from and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, instrumentation loop drawings, control-panel drawings.
• Support Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) activities including sourcing and installation of sensors, strain gauges, wiring, adhesives, coatings and associated hardware.
• Fabricate control panels, junction boxes, interface boxes, harnesses, test fixtures, including wiring documentation.
Calibration & Measurement Systems
• Procure, organize, manage, calibrate and control inventories of instrumentation and measurement equipment.
• Perform calibrations and verification of force, pressure, displacement, torque and temperature measurement systems.
• Support calibration and verification of load cells, force systems, pressure transducers, LVDTs, displacement sensors, torque systems, RTDs, thermocouples, related instrumentation.
• Manage calibration schedules, certificates, records, traceability documentation.
Applied Metrology & Standards Compliance
• Interpret and implement ASTM E4, ASTM E74, ISO/IEC 17025 principles, ISA, ANSI, ASME, aerospace and OEM requirements.
• Understand and apply measurement-uncertainty, accuracy, precision, repeatability, reproducibility, traceability principles.
• Review calibration certificates and uncertainty statements for compliance and suitability.
• Maintain traceability to recognized national/international standards
**But what else? (advantages, specificities, etc.)**
Education
• Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Mechatronics Engineering Technology, or equivalent technical discipline.
Experience
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in instrumentation, calibration and metrology — industrial controls, engineering testing or laboratory environments.
• Experience supporting aerospace, automotive, industrial, structural or hydraulic testing programs is preferred.
• An asset: hands-on experience supporting computerized test systems and data-acquisition platforms — MTS Aero
Pro, Flex
Test, HBM QuantumX, Catman, LabVIEW or CompactRIO — and working within OT/ICS or validated test environments.
Ideal Candidate Profile
A hands-on instrumentation and metrology technologist who combines practical test-support skills with strong calibration and measurement rigor, and who is comfortable also supporting the test-control, data-acquisition and operational-technology systems that structural testing depends on.
Works independently, is equally at home on the test floor and in a structured quality workplace, and helps ensure the validity of engineering test data.
Secondary Responsibilities — Test-Control, DAQ & OT Support
Supporting scope
Keeping the test-control and data-acquisition systems running, with escalation for deeper work
**Candidate skills & requirements**
Test-Control & Data-Acquisition Support
• Provide day-to-day operational support for MTS Aero
Pro / Flex
Test test-control systems, HBM QuantumX data acquisition and HBM Catman software environments — set-up, first-line troubleshooting and routine maintenance.
• Support LabVIEW-based automated testing and data-acquisition applications, and assist with NI CompactRIO (cRIO) / field-I/O test stations, escalating development and complex configuration work to specialists or vendors.
• Help maintain compatibility between controller hardware, DAQ systems, operating systems, firmware, drivers and application software when instrumentation or channels change.
Systems, Data & OT Awareness
• Maintain the computer systems, software installations, licensing, drivers and validated configurations that run the test stations, following controlled software and firmware baselines.
• Maintain backup and recovery of controller configurations, Catman projects, LabVIEW applications, calibration files and test-data archives.
• Respect and help maintain IT/OT segregation of the test systems — coordinating with Corporate IT to preserve validated test environments while supporting cybersecurity and compliance requirements.
• Support obsolescence and lifecycle awareness for controllers, DAQ hardware and computers, and act as a first point of contact with test-system vendors (MTS, HBK/HBM, National Instruments) for support and licensing.
