**Marine Shipyard is Hiring a Steel Fabricator**
**Job Title: Steel Fabricator**
**Job Description**
The Steel Fabricator creates and constructs patterns and guides as templates for metal cutting, assembles, fits and welds metal sections and plates, and installs fabricated components into final products.

This role operates a variety of light and heavy machinery to perform precise cuts, form components, and assemble complete units or subassemblies, while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
**Responsibilities**
Create and construct accurate patterns and guides to use as templates for metal cutting.

Lay out reference points and patterns on heavy metals according to templates and blueprints.

Operate light machinery such as brake presses, shears, cutting torches, and grinders to cut and shape metal components.

Assemble, fit, and weld metal sections and plates to build complete units or subunits.

Install fabricated components into the final product according to specifications.

Preheat workpieces to ensure they are malleable and suitable for forming and welding.

Monitor the quality of fabrication and production to ensure components meet required standards.

Set up and operate heavy machine tools, including radial drills, end mills, and edge planers.

Monitor materials usage and promptly report any issues related to materials or supply.

Maintain current knowledge of changes in fabricating compliance, practices, and techniques.

Ensure accuracy and timely completion of assigned tasks, projects, and work orders.

Maintain safe working conditions and adhere to Occupational Health and Safety regulations at all times.

Follow all workplace safety policies and compliance regulations, and actively participate in identifying hazards.

Report any unsafe conditions, accidents, or injuries promptly to a supervisor to support quick correction and proper reporting.

Comply with all rules, regulations, protocols, and established performance metrics.

Analyze blueprints and engineering drawings to determine materials needed and plan the sequence of cutting, fitting, and welding tasks.

Maintain a clean, orderly, and organized work area.

Effectively and efficiently prioritize daily work to meet production schedules and deadlines.

Accurately complete work orders and time cards to document tasks performed and time spent.

Participate in cross-training on other functions within the facility as required.

Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned to support the overall operation.
**Essential Skills**
At least 5 years of fabrication experience.

Red Seal trade certification in a relevant metal or fabrication discipline.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and fabrication drawings.

Strong experience with steel fabrication, including fitting and layout on heavy metals.

Demonstrated skill in flux core welding (FCAW) on mild steel.

Experience with flux core MIG welding and stick welding (SMAW).

Ability to work confidently with wire feed welding machines.

Competence in using grinders and other metal finishing tools.

Solid blueprint reading skills, including layout of reference points and patterns.

Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Capability to work safely in confined spaces and at heights up to approximately 25 feet.

Strong understanding of Occupational Health and Safety practices and safe work procedures.

Ability to monitor quality and materials usage and communicate issues clearly.





Effective time management and task prioritization skills.

Ability to accurately complete work orders and time cards.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
Forklift experience is an asset.

Confined space experience or training is considered an advantage.

Any knowledge of class production processes is beneficial.

Marine or shipyard fabrication experience is an asset.
CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) ticket or eligibility is a strong plus.

Experience with stick flux, stick MIG welding, and related welding processes.

Comfort working both indoors and outdoors in a yard or marine environment.

Ability to cross-train and support multiple functions within a fabrication facility.

**Work Setting**
This role involves working both indoors and outdoors in a yard and marine-oriented environment, including confined spaces and elevated areas up to approximately 25 feet.

You will regularly use wire feed welding machines, brake presses, shears, cutting torches, grinders, and heavy machine tools such as radial drills, end mills, and edge planers.

The standard shift runs from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with overtime potentially required based on workload and project demands.

Travel to off-site locations may be required to support field or marine projects.

The dress code includes steel-toed safety boots and a welding helmet, with safety glasses or goggles provided on site.

Coveralls are supplied, and you are expected to bring basic personal tools such as a chipping hammer.

The environment emphasizes strict adherence to safety procedures, clean and orderly work areas, and collaboration within a hands-on, industrial setting.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, BC.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
**Workplace Type**
This is a fully onsite position in Richmond,BC.
