Approximately 17,000 election officials are needed across B.C. to help deliver the provincial general election on October 24, 2026.

Election officials play an important role to play in the electoral process. They help ensure voters receive excellent service and have the opportunity to vote. Most positions are for one day (Final Voting Day on October 24), but there may be opportunities available for multiple days.
Please note:
- Election officials must be at least 15 years old andlegally entitled to work in B.C.
- You must provide your own transportation to and fromwork. Elections BC does not reimburse travelexpenses.
- Submitting an application does not guaranteeemployment.
- If you are offered a position, you will need toprovide your Social Insurance Number.
- All election officials must successfully completeonline training and attend in-person classroomtraining.
- You must have a valid email address and access to acomputer to complete the online training beforeattending classroom training.
- Training is mandatory, even if you have previouslyworked as an election official.
- verifies voter identification and entitlement to vote
- updates voter records in the voting book
- issues ballots to eligible voters
- provides instructions to voters on how to mark their ballot
- closes the voting station and packs up all materials
- provides information to voters about voting and identification requirements
- sets up, tests and troubleshoots the vote tabulator
- assists voters with casting their ballot by inserting the ballots into the vote tabulator machine
- manages tabulator notifications
- directs the flow of voters at the tabulator station
- shuts down the tabulator station and accounts for all materials
- oversees and troubleshoots voting technology in a technology-enabled voting place
- sets up and secures voting technology at their assigned voting place the day before the first day of voting
- ensures technology configuration, layout and security conforms with Elections BC requirements
- assists election officials to ensure proper technology set up and functioning throughout the day
$19 for online training $64 for classroom training (will attend multiple training sessions)
- oversees a voting place or group of voting places
- supervises staff at the voting place(s)
- ensures that voting procedures are followed correctly
- solves problems and manages issues
- supervises initial count and reports election night results

Experience and Skills Required
All election officials require:
- basic technical literacy and working knowledge oftechnology
- basic English language and literacy skills
- the ability to be impartial and non-partisan
- robust communication and customer service skills
- the ability to perform repetitive tasks
- basic arithmetic skills
- good analytical skills
- strong attention to detail
- the ability to follow directions and writteninstructions
- the ability to learn in a short time frame
- the ability to assist voters with support needs
The work day is long, typically 15 hours or more.Election officials must be prepared to sit or stand forextended periods. The workday begins at 7:00 a.m. andends at approximately 10:00 p.m.
