About the Role

The Company is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Executive Underwriter for Property to join their Western Region team. The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting and profitably growing a portfolio of commercial property business, with a focus on complex mid-market and large risks, including those exposed to catastrophic events.
This role involves managing a diverse range of risks, maintaining strong broker relationships, and contributing to the region's new business goals. The ideal candidate should have 8-10 years' experience in underwriting commercial P&C; insurance, particularly in property and CAT-exposed risks, and a strong understanding of earthquake modeling, flood exposure, and CAT aggregation in Western Canada.

The role also requires the ability to influence stakeholders,



collaborate across teams, and ensure optimal risk selection and portfolio performance.

Applicants for the AVP, Executive Underwriter position at the company should possess a solid analytical and decision-making skill set, with a profitability mindset and a disciplined approach to risk selection. The role demands a professional with the ability to operate effectively in a competitive market, balancing growth with underwriting discipline, and a proven track record of building and managing relationships with major brokers.
A post-secondary education and insurance designations such as CIP and FCIP are considered assets. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the regional growth strategy, provide market insights, and support the development of the underwriting team through mentorship and the sharing of best practices.

Strong communication, negotiation, organizational, and presentation skills are essential, as is the ability to continuously enhance knowledge of local market conditions, CAT trends, and the regulatory landscape in the region.
