About Aquaton
Aquaton Inc. provides HSE Project Support to industrial, energy, construction and other high-risk projects across Canada.
We support clients with qualified HSE professionals and project-based safety services, including field HSE support, shutdown/turnaround safety support, Prime Contractor HSE support, incident investigation, emergency-response planning, audits, hazard/risk management and related HSE project services.
Aquaton is also developing the Aquaton HSE Network, a technology-enabled platform designed to connect verified and project-ready HSE professionals with client project requirements while supporting compliance, matching, onboarding and deployment.
We are entering a significant growth phase and are seeking a commercially minded, highly organized Business & Operations Manager who can help convert opportunities into successful client engagements and ensure those engagements are executed effectively.
The Opportunity
This is not a conventional administrative position and it is not purely a sales role.
You will work directly with Aquaton's Director & HSE Principal to help grow the company's industrial client base while coordinating the operational process from initial client requirement through candidate selection, onboarding, mobilization and active project support.
The successful candidate will combine business development ability, industrial-commercial awareness, relationship management and strong operational execution.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Client Growth
- Identify and pursue potential industrial clients and project opportunities across Canada.
- Build relationships with HSE Managers, Project Managers, Construction Managers, Turnaround Managers, Procurement/Supply Chain professionals and other decision-makers.
- Research upcoming shutdowns, turnarounds, construction projects and other opportunities requiring HSE Project Support.
- Conduct professional outreach and follow-up with prospective clients.
- Support preparation and follow-up of proposals, capability submissions, quotations and expressions of interest.
- Coordinate vendor-registration and prequalification opportunities.
- Maintain a structured pipeline of prospects, opportunities, proposals and active clients.
- Help convert new relationships into purchase orders, service agreements and recurring client accounts.
- Maintain existing client relationships and identify repeat and expanded opportunities.
Project & HSE Professional Operations
- Receive and organize client HSE project requirements.
- Coordinate searches for qualified HSE professionals.
- Review candidate suitability against client requirements.
- Coordinate candidate submissions to clients.
- Track selections, onboarding requirements, orientations and mobilization.
- Maintain visibility of professional availability and active assignments.
- Coordinate client and professional communications throughout assignments.
- Track project changes, extensions, releases and demobilizations.
- Support timesheet/invoice information flow and other operational documentation.
- Help ensure client requests are addressed quickly and professionally.
Aquaton HSE Network Administration
As the Aquaton HSE Network is commissioned, the successful candidate will become a key business administrator of the platform, including:
- professional profile administration;
- certification/compliance verification workflows;
- professional availability and deployment status;
- client/project requirement administration;
- candidate matching and shortlist review;
- client submissions;
- onboarding and mobilization tracking;
- active-assignment compliance monitoring;
- operational reporting; and
- user support and data-quality oversight.
Technical software development and maintenance will remain the responsibility of Aquaton's software-development resources.
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- demonstrated experience in business development, operations, project coordination or client relationship management;
- preferably 5+ years of relevant experience;
- experience in Alberta's industrial, energy, oil & gas, construction, mining, utilities, shutdown/turnaround or related sectors;
- understanding of how contractors, industrial projects and vendor relationships operate;
- demonstrated ability to develop professional relationships and move opportunities toward commercial outcomes;
- excellent written and verbal communication;
- strong follow-up and organizational skills;
- confidence communicating with senior client representatives;
- strong computer and digital-platform skills;
- ability to manage multiple priorities without losing details; and
- a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
Experience in HSE/OHS services, industrial recruitment/project resourcing, contractor management, procurement/vendor management or project services would be a strong asset.
An existing professional network within Alberta's industrial sector would also be highly valuable.
Compensation & Employment Structure
- $32–$38/hour, depending on experience and demonstrated industry capability.
- Approximately 20 hours/week initially.
- Employee position.
- Performance incentives tied to qualifying new business and successful project mobilizations.
- Initial 90-day performance period, with formal review.
- Opportunity for increased hours, responsibilities and compensation as Aquaton's client portfolio and HSE Network grow.
What Success Looks Like
We are interested in measurable outcomes—not simply activity.
During the initial period, success will include building a qualified client pipeline, securing meaningful client conversations and opportunities, progressing vendor/client relationships, supporting successful HSE professional deployments, maintaining excellent operational follow-through and helping establish the Aquaton HSE Network as an effective operating platform.
