Fractional Financial Controller – E-commerce / Amazon (8 Hours per Week)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee accounting, financial reporting and controls for our Amazon and Shopify e-commerce operations. You will own the monthly close, review the bookkeeper’s work and provide management with reliable financial statements and clear visibility into cash flow, inventory and profitability.

This is a part-time, fractional role requiring 8 hours per week, with availability planned around month-end deadlines.

Key responsibilities

- Lead the monthly close and deliver a complete, reconciled reporting package by the 10th calendar day of the following month.
- Prepare and review the profit and loss statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement; explain material variances, margins and cash requirements to management.
- Review Amazon Seller Central settlements and Shopify reconciliations, including sales, fees, refunds, taxes, reserves and payouts, and reconcile them to bank accounts and QuickBooks Online.
- Oversee inventory accounting, cost of goods sold (COGS) and landed costs, including freight, duties and customs; reconcile inventory records and investigate discrepancies.
- Review CAD/USD and cross-border transactions, foreign exchange entries, bank and credit card reconciliations, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Review GST/HST, BC PST, payroll records and related tax and payroll liabilities; coordinate accurate,



timely filings and remittances with the bookkeeper and external accountant.
- Review and reconcile shareholder transactions and shareholder loan accounts, with appropriate supporting documentation and external CPA input where needed.
- Supervise and support the bookkeeper, review journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, and maintain a documented month-end checklist.
- Strengthen internal controls, approval processes and accounting procedures, and identify practical improvements to reporting and workflows.

Required experience and skills

- At least 7 years of progressive accounting and/or controllership experience.
- At least 2–3 years of hands-on Amazon/e-commerce accounting experience.
- Strong QuickBooks Online skills and practical experience reconciling Amazon settlements.
- Strong knowledge of inventory accounting, COGS and landed cost calculations.
- Experience with CAD/USD accounting and cross-border transactions.
- Working knowledge of Canadian GST/HST, BC PST, payroll and related liability reconciliations.
- A proven ability to complete month-end close by the 10th calendar day of the following month.
- Experience overseeing a bookkeeper and communicating financial results clearly to business owners.

Preferred qualifications

- CPA designation.
- Experience using A2X for Amazon/Shopify accounting integrations and reconciliation.
