About the opportunity
Ottawa Pain and Spine Institute is a specialized multidisciplinary clinic providing comprehensive assessment and treatment for patients with chronic pain and spinal disorders. Our services include interventional pain management, image-guided procedures, infusion therapy, medication management, and multidisciplinary care.
We are seeking a compassionate, motivated Physician Assistant with strong clinical assessment skills to join our growing team. Working alongside supervising physicians and other healthcare professionals, you will support patients throughout their assessment, treatment, and follow-up care.
Previous experience in pain medicine is an asset, but is not required. Training will be provided.
Key responsibilities
Within your training, competence, and the practice’s physician supervision and delegation arrangements, you will:
- Obtain patient histories, perform physical examinations, and contribute to consultations and follow-up assessments.
- Assess patients presenting with chronic pain, spinal disorders, neuropathic pain, headaches, and musculoskeletal conditions.
- Review diagnostic imaging, laboratory results, medical records, and previous treatments.
- Collaborate with supervising physicians to develop and implement treatment plans.
- Monitor patients’ responses to medications, procedures, and infusion therapies, and communicate concerns promptly.
- Provide patient education on treatment plans, rehabilitation, exercise, and chronic pain management.
- Assist with interventional pain and spine procedures,
including fluoroscopy-guided procedures, as appropriate.
- Support patient care within infusion services.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and communicate with referring physicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in quality improvement and patient-safety initiatives.
Qualifications
- Registered and in good standing as a Physician Assistant with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO), or eligible to obtain registration before starting in the PA role.
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with applicable PA certification.
- Strong clinical assessment, communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting and manage competing priorities.
- A professional, reliable, and compassionate approach to patient-centred care.
Experience in pain medicine, anesthesia, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, emergency medicine, primary care, or musculoskeletal medicine is an asset.
