Job Title: Rail & Barge Operator

Department: Terminal Operations

Location: Prince Rupert, British Columbia

Reporting to: Operations Superintendent

Provides Supervision to: N/A

Position Type: Full time

Purpose of the Role/Role Overview

The Rail & Barge Operator is responsible for participating in daily barge & rail activities as assigned by the Terminal Manager, Operations Superintendent, or their delegate. This position may be required to perform bunkering operations, planned maintenance, barge rounds, operate equipment such as locomotives, marine vessels, perform switching duties, and aid in mooring operations.

General Duties/Key Responsibilities

· Participate in all aspects of the day-to-day operation including but not limited to the movement of rail cars, draining of rail cars, handling lines, fuel transfer operations and other duties as may be required and determined by the Terminal Manager, Operations Superintendent, or their delegate.

· Monitor environmental requirements and report any non-compliances to the Terminal Manager.

· Participate in effective incident reporting and investigations.

· Actively participate in tailgate meetings with the crew, outlining daily activities and hazard mitigations.

· Actively participate in the company’s safety management program, emergency response drills, quality management program and environmental management program.

· Work with the management team to plan daily operational activities between Wolverine Terminals and various stakeholders.

· Successfully complete all required operational and safety training programs.

· Adhere to Wolverine Terminals policies and procedures.

· Adhere to all regulatory laws, provisions, and requirements.

· Adhere to and actively follow Wolverine Terminals safety policies and procedures.

· Maintain fit for duty requirements. This is a Safety Critical Position as deemed by Transport Canada.





· Perform related duties as assigned by the Terminal Manager or their delegate.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

· Completion of Secondary School.

· A combination of 2-3 years experience in rail, marine, or oil & gas field operations.

· Class 5 License with a satisfactory driving record.

· SOTO certification is preferred and may be required.

· Proficient in operating computer-based programs such as Microsoft Office Programs.

· English reading, writing, and speaking.

· Able to reliably commute to the Company’s work sites.

Working Environment, Physical, and other Requirements

· Successfully pass all pre-employment screening, including but not limited to medical and alcohol & drug testing as deemed applicable by Wolverine Terminals and/or Transport Canada with respect to marine and rail requirements.

· Work outdoors for extended periods in adverse weather conditions.

· Work rotating shift patterns, up to and including 12-hour days/nights, weekends, and holidays.

· Able to lift at least 50lbs.

· Able to stand, sit, crouch, bend, climb for extended periods.

· Must wear all required personal protective equipment daily.

· May require on-call/after hour availability from time to time.

· Must have a valid Class 5 driving licence and must have a car.

· Must adhere to company Alcohol & Drug policies.

Pay: $48.08 per hour
