Acres Animal Hospital is an independently owned and operated small animal veterinary hospital. We are looking for a part time or full time veterinary assistant-receptionist to join our team, to work Monday or Tuesday to Friday ( 4 or 5 days per week) on a regular basis. This person will be a friendly individual who can work both independently and in a team to provide individualized veterinary medical care to our patients, and excellent customer service to our clients. As both conventional medicine and alternative medicine are offered to our patients, there are opportunities to learn about many pathways to healing.

Duties include but are not limited to:

- answering the telephone (2 phone lines), taking accurate and detailed messages, logging & keeping notes, return calls with replies.
- making client calls, confirmation calls, reminder calls.
- greeting clients as they enter, in a friendly and welcoming manner.
- collecting a detailed patient history and other information on check-in.
- invoicing and taking payments, cashier duties, POS terminal.
- math skills to perform patient care calculations, counting items, and cashier duties.
- pet food & pet supply sales, cash sales.
- general hospital housecleaning, including laundry from patient care.
- cleaning and disinfecting exam rooms, treatment areas, and kennels.
- maintaining a clean and welcoming reception area.
- computer skills, ability to learn new programs, type, check email messages and send appropriate replies, use Windows.
- scheduling appointments according to hospital protocols.
- maintaining confidential detailed and accurate patient medical records and logs
- assisting the veterinarian in providing veterinary medical care to patients
- willing to learn how to work with animals in an integrative setting.
- effective restraint of patients (dogs and cats) for examination and care.

Qualifications

- high school diploma, preferred successful completion of college veterinary assistant program.
- people skills:



effective verbal and written communications in English.
- telephone skills: ability to handle two lines.
- computer skills proficient to create electronic medical records and use veterinary software.
- able to work independently and in a team.
- quick learner, good retention of learned skills.
- accurate attention to detail.
- able to lift 50 pounds.
- willing to work with animals, provide effective restraint for procedures.
- knowledge of alternative medicine preferred.
- compassionate and caring, respectful of others, patient and tolerant.

Acres Animal Hospital is open Mondays to Fridays from 12 noon to 6pm, and employees are typically scheduled between 11:45am-7pm. There are no weekend, overnight, or early morning shifts. We are closed on all statutory and common public holidays. We are looking for someone to work full time Monday to Friday, or part time Tuesday to Friday. Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
