Job Title: Water and Sewer Operator
Pay: $49,1050.99 - $70,151.42 (Salary explained below)
Contract: Fulltime Permanent
Hours: Mon to Thursday (36 hrs per week)
Union: Non-union position
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to Public Works Manager, the Water and Sewer Operator is responsible for the operation and maintenance of Stz’uminus First Nation’s (SFN) sewer and water systems.
The Water and Sewer Operator will undertake the Sewer and Water system’s assigned work duties. This will be limited to tasks that do not require certification by law that the employee has not yet obtained or for which she/he has not been adequately trained to perform.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
WATER SYSTEM DUTIES
1. Maintenance of the chemical feed systems, which includes adding chemicals, feeder calibrations, recording weights and volumes, performing dosage calculations and minor repairs to equipment,
2. Provide daily inspections, operations, and control of the raw water reservoirs and raw water pump stations.
3.
Maintenance and cleaning of the grounds surrounding the water treatment facility and pump stations.
4. Weekly Water Sampling in accordance with the Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines– Collection of bacteriological samples and testing of distribution system to ensure an adequate level of chlorine is present and water is free of pathogenic organisms.
5. Monitor and recalibrate values in the Valve House as required
6. Collection of lagoon samples and wastewater system records
7. Ensure regulatory requirements are met as set out by Health Canada.
8. Perform daily inspections of the lift stations and minor maintenance as required.
9. Maintain aerators and sewer pumps for the lagoon as outlined in the service manuals.
OTHER DUTIES
10. Record and submit for filing a record of all maintenance performed in an assigned format. This includes a daily log of tasks completed.
11. Must complete tasks in a timely and pleasant manner in accordance with the protocol outlined by the supervisor.
12. Must attend required meetings and training and keep all required/preferred certifications up to date
EDUCATION & EXPERINCE
- Completion of grade 12 preferred
- Must have Small Wastewater Systems (SWWS) Certification
- Must have Small Water Systems (SWS)
- Experience in Public Works Maintenance
- BC Drivers license is required
ABOUT THE SALARY
The Salary Range is the minimum and maximum annual salary based on full time equivalent hours. Incumbents are typically hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the range based on their knowledge, skills, abilities and experience in relation to the role requirements. The top 10% of the pay range is for the incumbents who are industry experts in the job with the combination of exceptional experience and competencies needed to perform all duties and responsibilities at a superior capability level.
