Job Type: Full-Time / Permanent
Schedule: Monday to Friday, with flexibility to support project requirements, site activities, shutdowns, and overtime as required.
Location: Sturgeon County / Fort Saskatchewan Area, Alberta
Position Summary
ONEX River is seeking a motivated Junior / Intermediate Project Manager to join our team and support the planning and execution of industrial construction and fabrication projects throughout the Sturgeon County and Fort Saskatchewan area.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior project leadership while taking increasing responsibility for assigned projects and scopes of work. This position will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from planning and mobilization through execution, cost and schedule tracking, client coordination, turnover, and closeout.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous industrial construction experience who is ready to continue developing their project management career and take on greater ownership and responsibility within a growing organization.
Other Responsibilities Include:
- Assist with and manage assigned industrial construction and fabrication projects or scopes of work from planning through completion.
- Support the development and maintenance of project schedules, budgets, work plans, and project deliverables.
- Coordinate project mobilization and demobilization activities.
- Work closely with Superintendents, Supervisors, Project Controls, Safety, Quality, Procurement, and field personnel to support successful project execution.
- Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and other project requirements.
- Monitor project progress, labour hours, productivity, schedules, costs, and overall performance.
- Assist with project forecasting, cost tracking, and progress reporting.
- Prepare and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly project reports as required.
- Assist with identifying changes in project scope and preparing and tracking change orders, field work orders, and additional work requests.
- Coordinate project documentation, drawings, specifications, RFIs, change documentation, and correspondence.
- Review construction drawings, scopes of work, specifications, and other project documentation.
- Assist with quantity tracking, progress measurement, and client reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with Procurement to support material and equipment requirements and delivery schedules.
- Assist with subcontractor coordination and ensure required documentation is maintained.
- Participate in project kickoff meetings, progress meetings, client meetings, planning sessions, and internal project reviews.
- Prepare meeting minutes, action lists, project updates, and follow up on outstanding items.
- Communicate regularly with field leadership regarding project priorities, schedule, manpower, materials, and operational requirements.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal departments.
- Work closely with Quality Control to support inspection, documentation, turnover, and project quality requirements.
- Work with the Safety team and field leadership to ensure project-specific safety and client requirements are maintained.
- Assist with resolving project issues related to schedule, manpower, materials, documentation, and field execution.
- Support project turnover, deficiencies, punch lists, and closeout documentation.
- Maintain accurate and organized project files and records.
- Visit active project sites regularly to support field execution and maintain a strong understanding of project activities.
- Take increasing ownership of projects and project responsibilities based on experience and demonstrated ability.
- Follow ONEX River and client policies, procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards.
- Perform other project-related duties as required.
Our Ideal Candidate
- 2–5 years of experience in project coordination, project management, construction management, or a similar role within an industrial workplace.
- Previous experience within oil and gas, petrochemical, industrial construction, fabrication, maintenance, or shutdown environments is strongly preferred.
- Experience with mechanical, piping, structural steel, fabrication, or multidisciplinary industrial construction projects is considered a strong asset.
- Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Engineering, Business, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Previous trades, field, or supervisory experience within industrial construction is considered a strong asset.
- Working knowledge of project schedules, budgets, cost tracking, forecasting, procurement, and change management.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, scopes of work, specifications, and project documentation.
- Understanding of industrial construction practices and field execution.
- Experience working with Project Managers, Superintendents, Supervisors, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and project management applications.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to take initiative.
- Comfortable working with both office and field personnel in a fast-paced industrial environment.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a project team.
- Reliable, dependable, accountable, and willing to take on increasing levels of responsibility.
