Company Introduction
For over 20 years, Larga Kivalliq has been operating a medical boarding home for patients and their escorts from Nunavut. Our services include accommodation, meals, ground transportation to and from the airport and medical appointments, and recreation services.
Position Overview
The Programs Assistant supports culturally responsive guest services and program delivery throughout the facility. The position provides English and Inuktitut language support, assists guests with orientations and activities, supports events and transportation-related guest arrivals, organizes program supplies and donated clothing, and helps maintain welcoming, clean, and functional common areas. Working closely with the Spiritual/Wellness Advisor and other departments, the Programs Assistant helps ensure guests receive respectful, timely, and culturally appropriate assistance.
Shifts Available
- Full-Time, Thursday – Monday 10am – 6pm
- Full-Time, Tuesday – Saturday 3pm – 11pm
Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide English and Inuktitut interpretation and language support to guests and staff across departments, within the employee’s level of fluency and competence.
- Prepare written translations as requested, within the employee’s demonstrated skill level, and seek clarification when terminology or meaning is uncertain.
- Conduct guest orientations and building tours, explaining available services, schedules, expectations, and key facility information.
- Help guests access programs, activities, and services in a respectful and culturally appropriate manner.
- Assist with Cultural Awareness Training for new and existing employees as requested.
- Assist with planning, promoting, setting up, delivering, and cleaning up programs, recreational activities, cultural activities, and special events.
- Prepare and post event notices and sign-up sheets, monitor registrations, and communicate program information to guests and staff.
- Prepare materials, equipment, refreshments,
and room arrangements required for scheduled activities.
- Encourage guest participation while respecting individual choice, abilities, privacy, and cultural preferences.
- Support wellness programming led by the Spiritual/Wellness Advisor, including preparing spaces and materials, assisting with guest participation, and helping coordinate culturally appropriate wellness activities and resources.
- Assist Client Care Coordinators and other departments when language, cultural, or guest support is required.
- Support Transportation and Client Care Services in greeting and orienting arriving guests at the airport or facility, as assigned.
- Provide language assistance during meal service and other guest-service activities when required.
- Maintain effective communication with related departments to support coordinated and consistent service delivery.
- Organize and maintain donated clothing so items are clean, accessible, and stored appropriately.
- Assist in maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the programs staging room, storage areas, and shared program spaces.
- Monitor program supplies and advise the Spiritual/Wellness Advisor when items require replenishment, repair, or replacement.
- Follow company policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, and health and safety practices.
- Report safety hazards, incidents, guest concerns, and urgent issues promptly to the appropriate manager and complete required documentation.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Spiritual/Wellness Advisor or designate.
Education & Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Fluency in English and Inuktitut, with the ability to provide clear verbal language support.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to engage respectfully with guests, families, and employees.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks, follow instructions, and adapt to changing operational needs.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a busy, high-energy environment.
- Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality when supporting guests and staff.
- Basic ability to prepare notices, sign-up sheets, translations, and other workplace documents.
Assets
- Experience supporting recreation, cultural programming, community events, guest services, or a related environment.
- Experience providing written English-Inuktitut translation.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certification.

Salary
- Wage is $20.00 per hour plus an additional $2-$6 bilingual premium.
