Position Title: Licensed practical nurse (LPN)
Location: Calgary, AB
Employment Type: Full-Time
Hourly Wage: $22.00 – $28.00 per hour
Job Overview
We are seeking a Licensed practical nurse (LPN) to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will work with specialists and family physicians to provide nursing services including, medication administration, injections, phlebotomy (with certification), assisting in minor procedures, equipment tray preparation and clean up, answer related patient medical questions and answer patient phone calls if more complicated medical content than the MOA can address. We also provide Rheumatology care and this job will involve further training and specialty nurse care for Rheumatology patients including biologics administration teaching, SC injection teaching, counseling and coordinating for patient navigation services with specialty pharmacies. This position offers a role to train further in patient care coordination and to be directly involved in daily patient care in a specialty center that also focuses on research and teaching.
About Us
Our busy multidisciplinary medical clinic in Calgary provides specialist care particularly Rheumatology, along with a family medicine clinic. We have a new clinic space that is well organized and updated, centrally located with free parking. It is also accessible by transit. We have an outdoor patio for lunch and breaktimes along with a dedicated lunchroom for staff. We are looking for a qualified, organized, and reliable LPN to join our team.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients in Rheumatology, specialty medicine and family medicine.
- Administer medications accurately following physician orders and document all treatments using the clinic EMR.
- Take patient vital signs,
assess health status, and report changes promptly to the healthcare team.
- Assist with procedures including phlebotomy (blood draws), wound care, SC injections and biologics/advanced DMARD therapy counseling.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on case management plans to optimize patient outcomes and coordinate care transitions. This includes pharmacy to ensure timely drug administration.
- Maintain detailed documentation of patient interactions, medication administration, and clinical observations in accordance with healthcare regulations and standards.
- Compliance: Maintain strict patient confidentiality in accordance with the Alberta Health Information Act (HIA).
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Graduate from an approved practical nurse diploma program.
- Registration: Active registration and practice permit in good standing with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
- Experience: 1 to 2 years of nursing experience in a medical clinic, specialist office, or healthcare setting is an asset.
- Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR-HCP certification is highly recommended but not mandatory.
- Clearances: Satisfactory Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel), Teams, and email programs. Familiarity with EMR software (Accuro is our main EMR) is strongly preferred with further training provided onsite.
- Strong background in case management practices ensuring seamless coordination of services for more complicated Rheumatology patient populations. Preference would of course be given to nurses with prior Rheumatology experience.
Pay: $22.00-$28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
