Manager, Surface Operations (Full-time)

Reporting to the Director, Underground Centre, the Manager, Surface Operations will be actively involved in all functions that directly impact the ongoing maintenance of the NORCAT Underground Centre building as well as the management of all construction projects for the Centre.

Responsibilities:

- Manage all maintenance issues that arise at the Underground Centre, including but not limited to issues related to water, power, etc.
- Provide savings opportunities to NORCAT where possible by performing maintenance duties in-house rather than engaging contractors.
- Manage all maintenance projects for the Underground Centre, including managing all competitive bids from sub-contractors and suppliers.
- Provide direction and coordinate daily workflow for maintenance employees as well as sub-contractors as necessary.
- Serve as the main liaison for tours and site visits of the NORCAT Underground Centre. This includes managing the scheduling, conducting,



and following up with tours / site visits to ensure all customer expectations are achieved. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring all tour/site visit participants are educated and informed of NORCAT’s on-site health and safety protocols and regulations (sign-in, sign-out, personal protective equipment, etc.).
- Act as the primary Information Technology resource for the Underground Centre and ensure all technical issues that arise in the Underground Centre are dealt with or diagnosed and referred to the proper department/individual within the organization. This includes working closely with NORCAT’s Information Technology department at head office.
- The successful candidate will act as a backup trainer for the Service Type Common core 6- hour program at the Underground Centre. This may mean delivering 4 or more service type courses in some circumstances depending on the situation.
- Perform monthly maintenance and service checks including but not limited to alarm checks, ventilation checks, ground support surveys, fire extinguisher checks in the mine and on surface and maintain records substantiating the checks have been completed.
- Provide assistance and support to all customers as required and co-ordinate the assignment and scheduling of trained mine support resources when required.
- Provide assistance to the Manager- Operations and Technology Testing, Underground Centre in managing technology testing contracts as needed.




- Serve as NORCAT Underground Centre Mine Manager when the Director- Underground Centre and Manager- Operations and Technology Testing are not available.
- Order ground support materials, equipment and supplies required for the training and technology testing operations.
- Participate and share insight into continuous improvement opportunities to enhance the overall customer satisfaction with NORCAT Underground Centre’s programs and services.
- Work with prospective customers, partners, and NORCAT staff to identify and potentially administer new training opportunities for the mining industry.
- Other duties as required

Required Skills and Expertise:

- Certified in Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core MLITSD Program # 770010 and P#770225
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience in mining, industrial operations, equipment maintenance, or comparable site environment.
- Familiarity with Ministry of Labour mining-related regulations and any other relevant government/corporate mining regulations
- Minimum of three years of supervisory or management experience managing employees, contractors, site visits and operational projects.
- Experience in client facing/customer service roles
- Minimum of five years of training experience required
- Strong leadership, multitasking, and communication skills
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
- Basic computer skills.
