Location: The Café, Double Ice Complex Arena, Paradise, NL
POSITION SUMMARY
The Team Member is responsible for providing friendly, efficient, and professional customer service while supporting the daily operations of The Café at the Double Ice Complex Arena.
The Team Member will assist with food and beverage preparation, order taking, cash handling, cleaning, stocking, and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for customers, arena guests, athletes, families, and staff.
The successful candidate should be dependable, customer-focused, energetic, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, particularly during hockey games, tournaments, practices, and other arena events.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Customer Service
- Greet customers in a friendly, professional, and courteous manner.
- Take customer orders accurately and efficiently.
- Answer customer questions regarding menu items, pricing, and available products.
- Provide prompt and friendly service during busy periods.
- Ensure customers receive accurate orders and appropriate portions.
- Handle customer concerns professionally and refer issues to a supervisor when necessary.
- Maintain a positive and welcoming atmosphere within The Café.
2. Food and Beverage Preparation
- Prepare food and beverages according to established recipes, procedures, and quality standards.
- Assemble customer orders accurately and efficiently.
- Follow proper food handling, storage, and temperature-control procedures.
- Ensure food products are properly labelled, stored, rotated, and dated.
- Maintain appropriate product levels throughout the shift.
- Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures when handling food and supplies.
3. Cash Handling and Point-of-Sale
- Operate the cash register/POS system accurately.
- Process cash, debit, credit,
and other approved payment methods.
- Provide customers with accurate change and receipts.
- Follow all cash-handling and security procedures.
- Ensure transactions are entered correctly into the POS system.
- Report cash discrepancies to the supervisor immediately.
4. Cleaning and Sanitation
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the service counter, preparation areas, equipment, and surrounding work areas.
- Clean and sanitize food-contact surfaces regularly.
- Wash dishes, utensils, and food-service equipment as required.
- Sweep, mop, and maintain floors in assigned areas.
- Empty garbage and recycling when required.
- Keep customer areas clean, organized, and presentable.
- Follow all required food safety and sanitation standards.
5. Stocking and Inventory Support
- Restock food, beverages, packaging, condiments, and other supplies as required.
- Maintain organized storage and work areas.
- Monitor product levels and inform the supervisor when supplies are running low.
- Assist with receiving and storing deliveries when required.
- Ensure products are stored according to food safety requirements.
6. Arena Event Operations
- Provide efficient service during hockey games, tournaments, practices, and other arena events.
- Be prepared to work in a high-volume environment during peak periods.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures as assigned.
- Work cooperatively with other team members to maintain service speed and quality.
7. Food Safety and Workplace Safety
- Follow all food safety, occupational health and safety, and workplace procedures.
- Maintain proper personal hygiene and wear required uniform/PPE.
- Follow safe food handling and temperature-control practices.
- Immediately report hazards, injuries, equipment problems, or unsafe conditions to a supervisor.
- Use equipment and cleaning chemicals safely and according to instructions.
- Maintain a clean, protected, and organized workplace.
8. Teamwork and General Duties
- Work cooperatively with other Team Members, Supervisors, and Management.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers during busy periods.
- Be punctual, dependable, and prepared for each scheduled shift.
- Follow company policies, procedures, and reasonable instructions from management.
- Assist with other duties related to the operation of The Café as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONSRequired
- Previous customer service or food-service experience is an asset but not required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to handle cash and operate a POS system.
- Ability to follow food safety and sanitation procedures.
- Reliable and dependable attendance.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and arena event periods.
Preferred
- Previous cafeteria, restaurant, concession, or food-service experience.
- Food Handler certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Experience working in a high-volume customer service environment.
- Able to obtain Vulnerable Sector Check Clearance
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The position requires the ability to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently bend, reach, and move around the work area.
- Lift and carry food, beverage, and supply items within reasonable workplace limits.
- Perform repetitive tasks such as food preparation, cleaning, stocking, and serving.
- Work in a busy environment for extended periods during arena events.
Pay: $16.35 per hour
Expected hours: 15.0 – 40.0 per week
