We are seeking applications for am Underground Welder. Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, Underground Welders will be responsible for bolting or arc welding pressure vessel structures and parts together; inspect assembled parts or components, such as tubes, fittings, valves, controls or auxiliary mechanisms; locate any defects; repair and / or replace any defects parts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Attend Mining Pre-Shift Meetings each shift

· Conduct operator pre-start checks on mobile plant and light vehicles prior to operation

· Clean and maintain cleanliness of underground vehicles (Internally and Externally) to Byrnecut policy

· Assess potential hazards and make necessary changes to eliminate or control them, reporting to supervisor as per Byrnecut policy





· Ensure that the necessary lock out procedures are in place before commencing work on a piece of equipment

· Ensure all work is carried out to quality and specification requirements with documentation completed on time

· General welding duties including use of: grinders, cutting (friction and gas cutting), welding (GMAW, TIG, stick), polishing, cropping. Pressing, heat treatment and stress relieving steels

· Cut, roll, shape, bend, mould, spin, heat or hammer metal products to fabricate parts or sub-assemblies

· Assemble parts and structures by lining up and joining them by welding. Bolting and riveting

· Finish products by cleaning, polishing, filing or bathing in acid solutions, or apply protective coating

· Maintain and use equipment as designed

· Diagnosis of faults and breakdowns

· Undertake repairs or component change outs as required

· Complete work orders and other maintenance documentation

· Read and interpret engineering drawings to determine scope of work

· Set up and operate hand and power tools, welding equipment or computer controlled machines

· Identify defects such as leaks, weak spots and defective sections so they can be repaired

· Maintain a clean and safe workspace, and abide by workplace health and safety policies and procedures

· Maintain and comply with fitness for work requirements





· Initiate and participate in equipment and job status handovers with mine supervisors and cross shift operators

· Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience:

· Must have relevant qualifications in underground mining equipment maintenance

· Experience in latest underground mining equipment & minimum 5 years experience in an underground mining maintenance role

· Willing to work rotating 12 hour shifts (Day/Night Shift)

· Relevant welding trade certificate

· Ability to make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities

· Ability to work with minimal supervision

· Strong organisational and time management skills

· Enthusiasm for continuous improvement

· Have a good understanding of general OHS

· Explicit and concise verbal skills / Proficient English reading and writing skills

· Ability to understand, interpret and follow instructions

· Ability to work to deadlines

· Maintain good relationships with other personnel, including Byrnecut and client personnel

· Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe work environment

Pay: $115,000.00-$140,000.00 per year
