Bilingual Senior Investigator
FULL TIME, PERMANENT
Location: Hybrid – GTA (approximately 2 days per week in office on average)
Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM (35 hours per week)
Salary: Up to $105,000 + bonus

Job Summary:
The Senior Investigator independently manages a varied caseload involving banking and investment matters. The role requires careful analysis of evidence, sound judgment, clear communication and the ability to move complex, multi-issue files toward fair and well-supported outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Case Investigation
- Maintain complete, accurate and well-organized case records
- Review information and documentation submitted by all relevant parties
- Identify the key issues and develop an appropriate investigation plan
- Identify and obtain any additional records required from involved parties or external sources
- Prepare for and conduct interviews with individuals, organizational representatives and third parties
- Conduct relevant legal, regulatory, industry and factual research
- Evaluate the evidence and determine the relevance and reliability of the information collected
- Work with internal financial specialists when analysis or loss calculations are required, then review and interpret the results for accuracy
- Maintain professional and timely communication with all relevant parties throughout active investigations
- Reach well-supported conclusions that:
- are based on a thorough and impartial review;
- consider all relevant evidence and information; and
- are consistent with established internal policies, procedures and applicable requirements
- Consult with the Investigations Manager or colleagues when additional guidance or expertise is appropriate
- Clearly document the analysis, reasoning and recommended conclusions
- Explain the investigation process, findings and approved conclusions to the relevant parties
- Prepare clear written assessments, proposed resolutions and other formal correspondence
- Support constructive resolution discussions and document agreed outcomes in writing
- When an agreed resolution cannot be reached, prepare a clear and persuasive investigation report and communicate the recommended outcome
- Complete investigations accurately, efficiently and within established timelines
- Respond professionally to appropriate follow-up inquiries after a case is closed
Qualifications:
- Fluently bilingual in English and French, both written and spoken.
- 5+ years of investigation experience within the financial services industry, with a strong focus on investment-related complaints, customer disputes, complaint resolution, or consumer-focused financial investigations.
- University degree or equivalent relevant education.
- Ability to work within a hybrid model in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
- Robust securities and/or investment industry experience, including knowledge of investment products, industry practices, and the applicable regulatory environment.
- Demonstrated experience independently conducting complex investigations, reviewing evidence, interviewing relevant parties, assessing credibility, and reaching fair, evidence-based conclusions.
- Proven experience investigating customer complaints or disputes involving investment or financial products and services.
- AML, KYC, compliance, fraud,
or financial-crime investigation experience alone will not meet the requirements of this position. Candidates must have directly relevant complaint, dispute-resolution, investment, or consumer-focused investigation experience.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to assess complex or conflicting information, determine relevance, and develop well-supported conclusions.
- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise, professional, and well-reasoned investigative findings and correspondence.
- Solid verbal communication and interviewing skills, including the ability to independently prepare for and conduct interviews and assess the reliability and credibility of information provided.
- Strong research skills and the ability to interpret relevant legislation, regulations, policies, industry practices, and supporting documentation.
- Sound independent judgment and a demonstrated commitment to fairness, impartiality, and ethical decision-making.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple investigations and meet established timelines.
- Solid interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, management, consumers, and financial-services organizations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, database/contact-management applications, and the ability to adapt to new technologies.
