Greystone Design Group is an integrated, multidisciplinary design firm offering architectural design, store planning, site planning, project management, and equipment technology services. Our projects range from retail stores, pharmacies, offices, and restaurants to new builds, spanning a variety of sizes and levels of complexity.
We have an immediate opening for a Bilingual (French/English) Senior Architectural Technologist based in our Cambridge or Toronto office.
This role is for an experienced technologist who can take ownership of project delivery, lead the development of coordinated drawing packages, and guide a design team with minimal supervision. Working with our Architectural Department Managers and Studio Leads, you will move projects from initial planning through construction documentation and support during construction, with responsibility for technical quality, coordination, and adherence to project requirements.
What you’ll do
Lead project delivery
- Take day-to-day ownership of assigned projects, managing priorities, drawing deliverables, and schedules in collaboration with the Department Manager and Studio Lead.
- Serve as a key coordination contact for clients, consultants, and internal team members, identifying issues and following them through to resolution.
- Participate in client planning and coordination meetings, translating decisions into clear direction for the design team.
- Identify technical and coordination risks early, resolve issues within your scope, and escalate decisions requiring management or architect input.
Develop and review technical documentation
- Prepare and coordinate conceptual layouts, floor plans, site plans, elevations, construction details, specifications, and drawing notes using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Develop complete, coordinated drawing packages for permit applications, tender, and construction.
- Apply relevant building code requirements, municipal by-laws, and construction detailing principles to project documentation.
- Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with Greystone’s and clients’ design standards.
- Coordinate architectural documentation with mechanical,
electrical, structural, and other consultant drawings.
Support projects through construction
- Conduct site visits, surveys, and audits to document existing conditions and incorporate findings into project drawings.
- Support tendering and contract/construction administration, including drawing revisions and responses to project questions.
- Maintain organized, current project records and ensure that decisions and revisions are reflected in project documentation.
Guide the team and strengthen standards
- Provide technical leadership, drawing review, and practical guidance to other design team members.
- Help maintain and improve drawing standards, details, templates, and documentation practices.
- Promote design solutions that balance client requirements, functionality, construction practicality, and value.
What you’ll bring
Required qualifications
- A diploma in Architectural Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related construction design or drafting discipline.
- A minimum of 10 years experience as Architectural Technologist in an architectural firm.
- Relevant architectural design and construction industry experience in Quebec, including practical knowledge of applicable building codes, regulations, and municipal requirements.
- Fluency in French and English, both written and spoken, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients, consultants, and project teams in both languages.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and review technical drawings and construction documentation in French, including drawing notes, annotations, and specifications, using appropriate architectural and construction terminology.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects with minimal supervision and coordinate the work of consultants and internal team members.
- Experience developing working drawings for commercial retail projects.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit, supported by formal training and practical production experience. Please identify your proficiency in each platform when applying.
- Robust knowledge of architectural detailing and construction methods, with practical experience applying the Ontario Building Code and relevant municipal by-laws.
- Experience preparing conceptual layouts, plans, elevations, site plans, and coordinated construction documentation.
- Experience in contract/construction administration, with an understanding of tendering processes and CCDC documentation.
- Ability to interpret surveys and architectural, mechanical, electrical, and structural drawings.
- Robust written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues and coordinate decisions with clients, consultants, and colleagues.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and technical guidance to a design team.

Pay: $75,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
