Developmental Support Worker / Personal Support Worker / Health Care Aide - Waterdown, ON - CAD$162.00/week
Description
About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver to provide companionship visits for a gentleman currently residing in long-term care at Alexander Place in Watertown. He's a very social person who enjoys watching Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, baseball, and hockey. He's currently bed-bound following a hip fracture and experiences dizziness when attempting to sit upright, which has limited his mobility. He has some hearing difficulties and memory challenges, but remains engaged and would greatly benefit from regular social interaction. The family visits frequently but recognizes he needs additional companionship during the times they cannot be there.
Responsibilities:
- Provide friendly companionship and conversation during visits
- Assist with cognitive exercises using an iPad with memory games
- Coordinate with nursing staff to ensure hearing aids are in place before visits
- Watch television programs together and engage in his interests
- Provide social stimulation and help reduce feelings of isolation
- Communicate with family about visit highlights and any observations
What We're Looking For:
- Someone who makes clients feel comfortable and brings positive energy
- Patient and calm demeanor, especially with seniors who have hearing difficulties
- Experience working with individuals who have limited mobility
- Comfortable using basic technology like iPads for cognitive activities
- Reliable and consistent with scheduled visits
- Preference for female caregivers as requested by the client
- English speaking
- Understanding of long-term care environments and ability to work within facility protocols
Schedule:
Two visits per week, 3 hours per visit (6 hours weekly total). Visits will occur on consistent days in the afternoon, ideally starting after lunch around 1:00 PM. The family works shift work and needs coverage on days when they cannot visit. This is a long-term prospect to build a meaningful relationship with someone who genuinely enjoys company and conversation.
This role is perfect for a caregiver who values the importance of human connection and understands how companionship can significantly improve quality of life for seniors in care facilities.
