Middle Mile | Therapy for Men | Toronto + Virtual Across Ontario
About Middle Mile
Middle Mile is a growing psychotherapy practice in downtown Toronto focused on men’s mental health. I work with men who are often functioning well on the outside but struggling underneath. They may be dealing with anxiety, depression, substance use, relationship difficulties, anger, self-worth, burnout, compulsive porn use, major life transitions, or simply the feeling that something in their life needs to change.
Middle Mile is built around the idea that therapy for men should be clinically strong, but it should also feel approachable, practical, and human. Many of the men who reach out are coming to therapy for the first time. Some are not even sure therapy is for them. I want Middle Mile to be a place where men can have honest conversations without feeling like they need to have the right language or fit a particular idea of what therapy is supposed to look like.
The practice has been growing quickly, and I am now looking for the first therapist to join Middle Mile. This is an opportunity to build a strong private practice caseload while also getting involved at an early stage and helping shape what Middle Mile becomes.
What will you do?
You will provide individual psychotherapy to adults, primarily men, through a combination of in-person sessions in Toronto and virtual sessions across Ontario. Clients come to Middle Mile with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, substance use, relationship difficulties and infidelity, anger and emotional regulation, self-worth, work stress, fatherhood and major life transitions.
Right now, Middle Mile is a solo practice and I am looking for the right therapist to become its first associate. I will focus on bringing in new clients and building the systems around the practice so that you can focus on the clinical work.
The goal is not to hand you a full caseload overnight. We will build it gradually, with attention to your availability, clinical interests, and the clients you work best with. As demand grows, so can your caseload and your role within Middle Mile.
Come along for the ride
Being the first hire is an important part of this opportunity.
You will not be joining a large roster of clinicians or becoming another profile on a group practice website. You will be joining while Middle Mile is still being built.
I have a clear vision for the practice, but I do not want to build a clinic where every decision has already been made before the first therapist arrives. I want the person who joins me to have a genuine voice in the clinical culture we create, how we approach therapy with men, the kinds of clinicians we eventually bring onto the team and the services we develop.
Over time, that could include groups, workshops, community partnerships, clinical resources, mentorship or other ideas we have not thought of yet. There is no expectation that you take all of that on or even any of it. You may simply want to build a outstanding caseload and do excellent therapy. But if the idea of helping shape a practice from an early stage appeals to you, there will be room for that here.
The goal is is to build a small, boutique practice that is known for doing particularly good work with men.
Who I’m Looking For
I am looking for a therapist who is skilled clinically, approachable, grounded, direct, and genuinely interested in working with men. You should be comfortable with clients who may not arrive particularly emotionally articulate, who may be skeptical about therapy, or who have spent years dealing with difficult things by simply pushing through them.
You can have a straightforward conversation without relying heavily on clinical language. You are comfortable sitting with difficult material, but you also understand that therapy does not need to feel heavy or formal to be meaningful. You know when to challenge someone, when to slow things down and when curiosity is more useful than having the perfect intervention.
Middle Mile is integrative rather than built around a single modality. Experience with ACT, CBT, DBT, IFS, psychodynamic therapy, EMDR, motivational interviewing, somatic approaches, trauma-informed care or other evidence-informed approaches is welcome. More important is your ability to build strong therapeutic relationships and adapt your approach to the person sitting across from you.
You must be registered and in good standing with an Ontario regulatory college that permits the practice of psychotherapy. Experience providing individual psychotherapy to adults is required. Experience working with men, substance use, relationships, trauma, anxiety or emotional regulation would be an asset.
What's in it for you?
You will have the autonomy of private practice without having to build everything from scratch. Set your own hours and availability. Middle Mile provides referrals and marketing, administrative infrastructure, a thoughtfully curated space for in-person sessions in central Toronto, the ability to work virtually across Ontario, flexibility in your schedule, and clinical consultation and support when you need it.
This could be a particularly good fit if you have thought about private practice but do not want to spend your time learning marketing, building a website, generating leads and figuring out how to consistently bring clients through the door. It could also be a fit if you already have some private practice work and want to be part of something with a clearer identity and room to grow.
I am building Middle Mile intentionally so that quality, fit, and culture do not get lost as it expands. I am hoping to find someone that is keen to be part of a growing practice.
Interested?
Send your resume and a short introduction. A formal cover letter is not necessary.
I would much rather hear a little about why working with men interests you, the kind of clinical work you find most meaningful, and what you would be excited to contribute to a growing practice.
