Description: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Live-In Cook to prepare meals for staff at a City of Toronto Winter Maintenance Depot. Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, the Cook is responsible for planning and preparing meals, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, and supporting meal service throughout winter operations. The successful candidate must have strong attention to detail, interpersonal skills, and a commitment to food quality, cleanliness, and safe food preparation. The position is located at a Winter Maintenance Depot within a contract area in the City of Toronto. The Live-In Cook is required to reside at the designated Depot 24/7 for the duration of the winter contract. Room and board are provided.

Key Responsibilities:

- Plan and prepare meals and food items for Depot staff throughout the day.
- Follow standardized recipes and prepare food from scratch as required.
- Prepare and submit meal plans and budgets to the Senior Supervisor as required.
- Procure groceries and coordinate food and kitchen supply orders in accordance with approved budgets and Company requirements.
- Monitor inventory and ensure food and supply orders are reasonable and cost-effective.
- Ensure food is properly labelled, stored, handled, and rotated to minimize spoilage and waste.
- Safely operate and maintain kitchen and food preparation equipment.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen, food preparation, and dining area in accordance with required cleaning schedules.
- Clean dishware, utensils, cookware, food preparation equipment, and related kitchen items.
- Accommodate identified dietary requirements where reasonably possible and respond appropriately to staff inquiries.
- Identify and report food safety, equipment, or workplace hazards.




- Report for duty fit for work and able to safely perform assigned responsibilities.
- Wear required PPE and appropriate food-service attire, including hair restraints/hairnets as required.
- Communicate professionally and courteously with staff and other parties.

Qualifications & Skills

- Minimum 3 years of relevant culinary experience in a large institutional, commercial, or similar food service environment.
- Experience preparing a full range of meals and food items in volume.
- Knowledge of and ability to safely operate commercial or institutional kitchen equipment.
- Knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation, storage, and kitchen cleaning practices.
- Knowledge of applicable food safety, public health, and occupational health and safety requirements.
- Solid organizational, meal-planning, budgeting, and inventory-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage meal preparation and kitchen responsibilities with limited supervision.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to accommodate dietary requirements and adjust meal planning as required.
- Knowledge of winter maintenance operations is an asset.
- Valid G driver’s licence in good standing is an asset.
