Acro Dance Instructor — Level 6 and Above
Leap Studios | Calgary, AB
Leap Studios is seeking an Acro instructor to teach dancers working at Level 6 and above. We’re looking for an educator who combines strong technical knowledge with thoughtful progressions, clear instruction, and a commitment to happy, healthy, safe dancer development.
ACRO DANCE INSTRUCTOR
Tuesdays:
7:00-9:00 PM
Pay: varies based on experience and education / offer will consider both
Start Date: as soon as possible
Certification completed or in progress with Acrobatic Arts, Acro Dance Teachers Alliance (ADTA), or an equivalent recognized training program is required. Applicants must have training and teaching experience appropriate to the levels and skills they will teach.
Technical skills and knowledge
The successful candidate will be able to:
- Plan progressive training in flexibility, strength, balance, limbering, and tumbling.
- Assess prerequisite skills and physical readiness before introducing more advanced work.
- Teach sound alignment, weight transfer, body control, take-offs, and landings.
- Identify technical errors and select appropriate drills, regressions, and conditioning exercises.
- Use safe spotting techniques within their training and competence, while developing dancers’ independence.
- Develop active flexibility, strength, and control through appropriate conditioning.
- Recognize fatigue, pain, and loss of technique, and adjust training accordingly.
- Select and position mats and equipment appropriately for the skill and dancer.
- Help dancers integrate acro skills into choreography with controlled transitions and musicality.
Teaching and pedagogical skills
We’re seeking an instructor who can:
- Create structured lesson plans with transparent learning goals and a logical sequence of progressions.
- Differentiate instruction for dancers with varied experience, confidence, strength, and mobility.
- Give clear explanations, demonstrations, and specific, actionable feedback.
- Build confidence through achievable steps and respectful encouragement.
- Support dancers experiencing fear or hesitation without pressure to attempt skills before they are ready.
- Manage a busy class through purposeful stations, safe spacing, and active supervision.
- Develop students’ ability to understand corrections, assess their own work, and take responsibility for training habits.
- Track progress and communicate constructively with studio leadership, dancers, and parents.
- Maintain an inclusive, professional learning environment with appropriate boundaries and consent for hands-on corrections.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver classes aligned with the studio’s curriculum and the Acrobatic Arts syllabus.
- Prioritize consistent technique, physical preparation, and individual readiness.
- Collaborate with other faculty to support dancer development and appropriate use of acro in choreography.
- Arrive prepared and on time, and communicate reliably with studio leadership.
Qualifications
- Acrobatic Arts, ADTA, or equivalent certification completed or in progress.
- Experience teaching acro dance at Level 6 and above, or comparable levels.
- Competency to teach and spot aerials, back handsprings, back tuck, back layout
- Demonstrated knowledge of safe progressions, spotting, and age-appropriate instruction.
- Strong class management, communication, and lesson-planning skills.
- Current first aid certification is an asset.

Experience:
