NBM Engineering is seeking an Electrical Inspector to support electrical distribution, streetlighting, utility construction, and asset management projects throughout Ontario.
The Electrical Inspector serves as NBM Engineering's field representative responsible for monitoring electrical construction activities, ensuring compliance with utility standards, electrical safety requirements, engineering drawings, and client specifications while supporting safe and successful project delivery.
This opportunity is ideal for Powerline Technicians, Utility Inspectors, Electrical Engineering Technologists, Red Seal Electricians, Utility Construction Supervisors, and experienced electrical infrastructure professionals seeking a highly visible field inspection role.
The Electrical Inspector ensures compliance with:

WHAT YOU’LL DO
ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION INSPECTION
- Conduct inspections of overhead and underground electrical distribution projects.
- Inspect poles, conductors, transformers, grounding systems, streetlighting infrastructure, switchgear, cable systems, vaults, and associated utility assets.
- Verify materials, workmanship, installation methods, and construction practices.
- Ensure installations meet approved designs and utility standards.
- Identify deficiencies and compliance concerns.
UTILITY COMPLIANCE & QUALITY ASSURANCE
- Verify compliance with OESC, utility standards, and project specifications.
- Review work packages, drawings, and technical requirements.
- Monitor inspection hold points, testing requirements, and energization readiness.
- Validate field conditions and installed asset information.
- Support commissioning and turnover activities.
CONTRACTOR OVERSIGHT & FIELD COORDINATION
- Liaise with utilities, contractors, municipalities, project teams, and customers.
- Monitor contractor performance and compliance.
- Participate in site reviews and construction meetings.
- Escalate safety, quality, and schedule concerns when required.
- Support field issue resolution activities.
DOCUMENTATION & REPORTING
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and field observations.
- Maintain deficiency logs, photographs, testing records, and project documentation.
- Review and validate as-built information.
- Document field changes and quantity tracking.
- Support project closeout requirements.
HEALTH, SAFETY, & ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE
- Promote safety excellence across project sites.
- Verify contractor compliance with safety procedures and regulations.
- Confirm permits, locates, traffic control, and environmental requirements are in place.
- Exercise stop-work authority in accordance with client and NBM procedures when necessary.
- Report unsafe conditions and operational risks immediately.
ASSET MANAGEMENT SUPPORT
- Support utility asset condition assessments.
- Assist with asset verification and data collection initiatives.
- Participate in compliance inspections and infrastructure audits.
- Support utility asset management and lifecycle programs.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
EDUCATION
- Post-secondary Diploma or Degree in:
- · Electrical Engineering Technology
- · Electrical Engineering
- · Power Systems Engineering Technology
- · Related Discipline
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum three (3) years of experience within the electrical utility, distribution, construction, inspection, or compliance environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of overhead and underground electrical distribution construction practices.
- Experience interpreting electrical construction drawings, utility standards, work packages, and technical specifications.
- Working knowledge of: Ontario Regulation 22/04 (Electrical Distribution Safety), Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Applicable utility construction and safety standards
- Ability to identify deficiencies, assess field conditions, and communicate corrective actions while maintaining contractor independence regarding means and methods of work.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare clear, detailed, and professional inspection reports.
- Strong organizational skills, skilled judgment, and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence and ability to travel regularly throughout assigned service territories.
- Willingness to work varied schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and emergency response assignments when required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, tablets, mobile technology, and electronic inspection systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or Certified Technician (C.Tech.) designation.
- P.Eng. eligibility or registration considered an asset.
- Construction and Maintenance Electrician (309A) certification considered an asset.
- Powerline Technician (434A), Underground Distribution equivalent, Lineman Ontario Provincial Classification, Journeyperson Certificate issued by MEA/MTCU, or Red Seal certification strongly preferred.
- Previous experience working with: Local Distribution Companies (LDCs), Utility contractors, Electrical consulting firms, Municipal utility programs, Experience supporting electrical utility organizations.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Experience in one or more of the following areas is considered an asset:
- Utility construction inspection and compliance monitoring.
- Electrical distribution construction oversight.
- Inspection hold points and quality assurance processes.
- Construction administration and contractor compliance programs.
- Energization readiness reviews and commissioning support.
- Asset inspections and infrastructure condition assessments.
- GIS verification and field data collection.
- Utility asset management programs.
- Contractor performance monitoring.
- Deficiency tracking and corrective action management.
SAFETY CERTIFICATIONS (ASSET)
Current certifications in one or more of the following are considered an asset:
- WHMIS
- Working at Heights
- Standard First Aid & CPR
- Book 7 Traffic Control
- Utility-recognized safety training programs
- Electrical Utility Safety Rules (EUSR) related training
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Primarily field-based role.
- Frequent travel to project and client sites throughout Ontario.
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- PPE required in accordance with company and client requirements.
- Flexible hours may be required to support outages, emergency work, and project schedules.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence.
- Reliable vehicle for site travel.
- Ability to travel throughout assigned service areas.
- Ability to meet client-specific clearance and site access requirements.
