Senior Accountant, Fishermen Settlements

Vancouver, BC | Full-Time, Permanent
$125,000–$150,000 base salary to start + annual bonus and profit-sharing incentives + comprehensive benefits + RRSP matching

The Opportunity

Vorollo is partnering with an established organization within British Columbia's commercial seafood industry to identify an experienced Senior Accountant, Fishermen Settlements for a confidential search based in Vancouver.

This is a specialized senior accounting opportunity for someone who understands both the financial and operational sides of the commercial fishing industry.

The successful candidate will take ownership of the accounting and administration associated with fishermen and vessel settlements, working with detailed landing information, settlement calculations, pricing, adjustments, deductions and reconciliations while serving as a trusted point of contact for fishermen.

Strong accounting capabilities are essential, but this position requires more than technical accounting expertise.

Our client is specifically looking for someone who understands the commercial fishing workplace and can communicate confidently and effectively with fishermen, vessel owners and captains. Whether reviewing a settlement, explaining a calculation or working through a discrepancy, you'll need the industry knowledge, judgment and interpersonal skills to establish credibility and get issues resolved.

For someone with directly relevant commercial fisheries accounting experience, this is an opportunity to step into a senior position with meaningful ownership, competitive compensation and direct exposure to both operational and senior leadership.

What You'll Be Responsible For

You will take ownership of the fishermen settlement function and help ensure settlements are accurate, timely, well documented and effectively communicated.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Preparing, reviewing and reconciling fishermen and vessel settlements.
- Ensuring settlement calculations accurately reflect applicable landings, pricing, deductions, advances, adjustments and other relevant components.
- Reviewing fish tickets, landing records, vessel information and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Preparing and reconciling interim and final settlements and processing subsequent adjustments where required.
- Maintaining accurate fisherman and vessel accounts and investigating discrepancies or outstanding balances.
- Communicating directly with fishermen regarding settlements, payments, account questions and discrepancies.
- Working through settlement-related questions and taking ownership of issues through resolution.
- Supporting quota,

licensing and other fisheries-related administration connected to the settlement function.
- Reconciling catch, landing and third-party information against internal accounting records.
- Coordinating with applicable regulatory bodies and external industry stakeholders as required.
- Working closely with accounting, operations and senior leadership to ensure settlement information is accurate and processed efficiently.
- Supporting reconciliations, accruals, financial reporting and other accounting activities associated with commercial fisheries operations.
- Maintaining complete, organized and auditable supporting documentation.
- Identifying opportunities to strengthen settlement processes, internal controls and communication between accounting, operations and fishing partners.

What We're Looking For

This is a specialized search, and the strongest candidates will bring a combination of senior accounting capability and hands-on commercial fisheries knowledge.

Previous experience working directly with fishermen settlements or vessel settlements is strongly preferred.

Experience within commercial fishing, seafood processing, fish buying, seafood distribution or another closely related environment will be highly valued.

We're looking for someone who brings:

- Senior-level accounting experience with strong reconciliation, analysis and problem-solving capabilities.
- Direct knowledge of fishermen or vessel settlement processes.
- An understanding of commercial fisheries operations and the financial information associated with fish landings.
- Familiarity with fish tickets, landing records, vessel information, quota, licensing and related fisheries documentation.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and accounting systems capabilities.
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
- The ability to investigate discrepancies, identify underlying issues and independently work them through to resolution.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- The confidence and credibility to communicate directly with fishermen, vessel owners, captains and other industry stakeholders.
- The ability to remain practical, composed and solutions-oriented when dealing with complex or sensitive settlement matters.

A CPA designation is considered an asset, but directly relevant commercial fisheries and settlement experience will be given significant consideration.

Who Will Succeed in This Role

The right person understands that this position isn't simply about producing accurate numbers. It's also about understanding the operation and the people behind them.

You understand how commercial fish landings ultimately translate into settlements and why getting those settlements right matters to the fishermen receiving them.

You're comfortable dealing directly with fishermen and answering detailed questions about their accounts. When something doesn't reconcile, you don't simply identify the discrepancy - you investigate it, understand what happened and take ownership of getting it resolved.

You're analytical and detail-oriented without being unnecessarily rigid. You communicate clearly, exercise good judgment and understand how to balance strong financial controls with the practical realities of an operational and seasonal industry.

Most importantly, you're someone both internal stakeholders and fishing partners can trust with a financially important and relationship-sensitive function.

The anticipated compensation package includes:

- $125,000–$150,000 base salary to start, depending on experience and directly relevant fisheries expertise.
- Annual bonus and profit-sharing incentives.

- RRSP matching retirement savings plan following the applicable eligibility period.
- Additional employee advantages and incentives associated with the position.
