Hammonds Plains

On behalf of our client, OK Tire & Auto Service, we are looking for a Licensed Automotive Technician to join their team in Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia.

About Our Client:
With more than 325 locations across Canada, OK Tire is the country's largest independent tire and auto service retailer. Locally, the organization operates 14 locations throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Their Hammonds Plains location is a busy, well-established shop that has been part of the community for approximately 25 years. As one of their largest locations, the shop has built a robust reputation through quality workmanship, repeat customers and referrals.
Their approach is very team focused. Technicians are paid straight time rather than flat rate, which allows the team to work together, support one another and share knowledge without the pressure of competing for billable hours.

The Opportunity:
This is a great opportunity for an experienced Automotive Technician who enjoys the trade but is looking for a collaborative shop environment where quality work and teamwork are valued.
At OK Tire, you’re paid for every hour you work, not just the jobs you complete. Unlike flat-rate shops, OK Tire pays technicians an hourly rate from the time they punch in until they leave. Whether you’re completing a repair, diagnosing an issue or lending a hand around the shop, your time is paid.
You'll work on a wide variety of makes and models and handle everything from routine maintenance to more complex repairs and diagnostics. The Hammonds Plains location is a busy shop with multiple hoists, so you'll also need to be comfortable managing more than one vehicle at a time when needed.
The team is looking for someone who takes pride in doing good work, enjoys helping others and wants to be part of a shop where people genuinely work together.

The Ideal Candidate:

- You're an experienced Automotive Technician who is confident in your abilities but still enjoys being part of a team.
- You're comfortable working on different makes and models rather than specializing in one manufacturer, and you can shift between repairs and priorities as the day changes.
- You take pride in doing the job properly, treat customer vehicles with care and aren't interested in recommending work that isn't needed.
- You may also enjoy mentoring less experienced technicians and sharing what you've learned throughout your career.

Responsibilities:

- Diagnose mechanical issues through road testing, inspection and testing of automotive systems and components.
- Complete repairs and maintenance on a variety of makes and models.
- Perform brake, suspension, front-end, exhaust, tune-up, maintenance and tire work.
- Complete Motor Vehicle Inspections.
- Manage work across multiple vehicles or hoists when required.
- Review recommended repairs with the Shop Manager before proceeding.
- Let the Shop Manager know when unexpected issues or additional repairs arise.
- Support other technicians when needed and share knowledge with less experienced team members.
- Take ownership of the quality of your repairs and work toward minimizing return defects.
- Keep customer vehicles clean and protected while they are in the shop.
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area.

Requirements

We’re looking for an experienced technician who takes pride in their work and enjoys being part of a team. Someone who’s happy to share their knowledge, lend a hand when needed and contribute to a shop where everyone supports one another.

You'll ideally bring:

- Approximately 2 to 5+ years of experience in the automotive trade.
- A valid MVI license.
- Red Seal certification is an asset, but not required.
- A valid driver's license.
- Experience repairing and maintaining a variety of makes and models.
- The ability to diagnose issues and work independently.
- Comfort managing multiple vehicles and priorities throughout the day.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work.
- A willingness to support and work alongside other technicians.
- The physical ability to lift and move items weighing up to approximately 50 lbs.
- Excellent customer service

Benefits

- Competitive hourly rate for an experienced Licensed Automotive Technician, with compensation discussed during the recruitment process.
- Straight-time pay, not flat rate.
- Comprehensive health and dental benefits.
- 3% RRSP matching.
- Paid vacation.
- Compensation review after approximately six months based on performance and progression.
- Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.
- Occasional Saturday mornings, 8:00am to 1:00pm, during the spring and fall tire seasons. Technicians typically work only a handful of these Saturdays throughout the year.
- Stable, year-round work in an established and busy shop.
- A team environment where experienced technicians are encouraged to mentor and support others.

Pay: $35.00-$40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week

Benefits:

- Dental care
- Extended health care
- On-site parking
- Paid time off
- RRSP match
