About West Isle
West Isle Industries has built custom architectural millwork and cabinetry in Greater Victoria for over 45 years. We build for medical offices, commercial interiors, hotels, and high-end homes. Our shop is in central Langford, and with a 6:00 AM start, you miss the traffic.
The Role
This is a production assembly role in our upstairs shop. Most of your day is building cabinet boxes and sub-assemblies from CNC-cut and edgebanded parts, to shop drawings, at a steady production pace.
We want to be upfront: a lot of this work is repetitive, though we are not a highly automated assembly line. The right person is fine with that. They take pride in building the 40th box as well as the first, they keep their head down, and they can pick up the pace when a job needs to ship. Someone who takes pride in honing their craft.
In return, you will get real cross-training. Over time we will train you on our edgebander and CNC, and on the other tasks that keep assembly moving. If you want to learn more of the shop than one bench, this is a good place to do it.
What you will do
- Assemble cabinet boxes, sub-assemblies, and millwork components accurately and efficiently from shop drawings and cut lists
- Check your own work for square, fit, and finish before it moves on
- Run and support the edgebander, CNC, and other assembly support tasks as you are trained
- Prep, move, and stage material so assembly keeps flowing
- Hit daily targets and step up the pace when deadlines require it
- Follow shop safety rules every day, no shortcuts
- Keep your area clean and organized
What you need
- At least 2 years of hands-on cabinet building experience. This is required. We will train you on our equipment, but not on how to build a cabinet.
- Solid use of hand tools, power tools, and assembly equipment (clamps, pocket screws, dowels, case clamps, nailers)
- Comfortable reading shop drawings and working in both metric and imperial
- Able to lift 50 lbs and work on your feet for a full shift
- Reliable attendance and on time at 6:00 AM, every day.
A production shop runs on people showing up. This is a core requirement of the job.
- Able to understand and be understood in safety-critical and job-critical communication on the shop floor
- Live in the Greater Victoria area
Nice to have: production cabinet shop experience, edgebander or CNC exposure, forklift ticket, first aid.

- People who like getting things done and can see their own output at the end of the day
- People who work well without someone standing over them
- People who own their mistakes and fix them
- People who want to learn more of the shop over time
Pay and benefits

- Tell us about your cabinet building experience. Where did you work, how long, and what kind of work (production boxes, custom, commercial, residential)? The more detail the better.
- This role involves a lot of repetitive assembly work, with some days that need extra speed. Tell us about a time you did the same type of work for weeks at a time. What kept your quality and pace up?
- Tell us about a time a build went wrong. What happened, what was your part in it, and what did you do about it?
- Our day starts at 6:00 AM sharp. How would you get to the shop, and how does that start time fit your life?
- Which of these have you run or used before? Edgebander, CNC router, panel saw or beam saw, case clamp, none. If none, just say so. We train.
