Job Summary

REQUIREMENT

The licensee shall ensure that the cook referred to in subsection (1),

(a) has a chef training or culinary management diploma or certificate granted by a college of applied arts and technology or a career college;

(b) holds a certificate of qualification in the trade of Cook or Institutional Cook that was issued by,

(i) the Director of Apprenticeship under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998,

(ii) the Registrar of the College under the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009, or

(iii) the Registrar of Skilled Trades Ontario under the Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021; or

(c) has, in the reasonable opinion of the licensee, appropriate skills, knowledge and experience in the fields of institutional, health care, restaurant or hospitality cooking to perform the duties required of the position.

Responsibilities

- Prepare and cook a variety of menu items with precision,



consistency, and attention to detail.
- Ensure all food handling procedures adhere to safety standards and regulations.
- Assist in food preparation tasks such as chopping, marinating, portioning, and assembling ingredients.
- Serve food efficiently and courteously to guests, maintaining excellent food service standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including equipment and workstations.
- Follow recipes accurately and adapt to special dietary requests or modifications when needed.
- Support the team during busy periods by managing multiple tasks seamlessly and efficiently.

Experience

- Prior food service experience in a restaurant or similar setting is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated skills in food preparation, cooking, and meal assembly.
- Knowledge of food safety practices and proper handling techniques.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment with excellent time management skills.
- Familiarity with kitchen equipment and sanitation standards within the food industry.
