Tsang Family Dentistry

Highway 11

Tuesday to Saturday. Sundays and Mondays off. No dental experience needed.

We're Tsang Family Dentistry, a family dental office in Abbotsford, been here over 40 years. We need a full-time person at the front desk and we train from scratch.

The hours

Tuesday to Saturday, eight hours a day with an hour for lunch, between 8:30am and 6:00pm. Some days that's 8:30 to 5:30, others 9:00 to 6:00. Sundays and Mondays off. 40 hours.

That's every Saturday, every week, and there's no part time version. What you get back is two days off in a row and a Monday free when everything is open. Some people like that deal. Some don't, and it's better to know now.

Who it fits

It's a full-time job, so it works best as your only one.

We're at 33782 Marshall Road. Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack, Langley and Aldergrove work. Surrey and further west is too far to drive five days a week. We've learned it doesn't last.

We're not able to sponsor a work permit, so you'd need to be able to work full time in Canada already.

We're hiring someone to stay. Training takes months, and insurance and billing is where the job grows.

One small thing: when you get to the question about learning a job, please start your answer with the name of our street. It shows us you read this far.

The job

Most of it is the phone. Booking, confirming, explaining a bill, settling someone who's nervous or annoyed, while another person waits at the counter. The calls are in English, all day. Then greeting people, taking payments and keeping the day on time. Everything runs through the computer. We teach the software.

You don't need dental experience, or front desk experience.

What we can't teach is the attitude: you like people, you pick things up quickly, and you don't mind being shown a better way. You'll be corrected a lot in the first few months. That's normal here, and the people who do well don't mind it.

What you get

$21.00 to $26.00 an hour. With no experience you start at $21.00 to $23.00.

Training one system at a time. Nobody gets thrown at the phones.

Dental benefits, expanding at 3, 6 and 12 months.

We pay for approved courses, including the dental receptionist certificate.

Paid time off. Staff parking on site.

Wage reviews as you take on more.

A big team, and most of us have been here a long time.

Apply here and answer the questions. We read every application that answers all of them.

- The hours are Tuesday to Saturday, eight-hour days between 8:30am and 6:00pm. Does that work for you every week, Saturdays included?
- Do you have another job or a course that you'd be keeping up alongside this one?
- Where do you work now, or most recently, and what's your job there? When did you start? Have they trained you up to anything beyond what you were hired for?
- Think of a job you started knowing nothing about. What was the hardest part to learn, and how did you get good at it? If you haven't had a job yet, school or anything else is fine.
- Which city do you live in, and how would you get here for an 8:30am start?
