About the PWHL

Position Summary
Provide athletic therapy services to Ottawa Charge athletes in coordination with the team’s sports medicine staff, including the Head Athletic Therapist and Team Physician. Services include coverage of scheduled practices and home games, athletic therapy room coverage, and treatment and rehabilitation for athletes who are not traveling with the team. Services are performed on-site in Ottawa, including some evenings and weekends, with an estimated commitment of approximately 8 hours per week. The engagement term is November 1, 2026 through June 1, 2027.
Services
- Provide sideline coverage at scheduled Ottawa Charge practices and home games
- Provide athletic therapy room coverage, including pre- and post-game treatments
- Recognize, evaluate, and treat acute, chronic, and emergent injuries and illness on the ice, on the sideline, and in the athletic therapy room
- Cover skating sessions and provide treatment and on-ice rehabilitation for athletes who are not traveling with the team
- Communicate athlete progress to the team’s sports medicine staff
- Complete appropriate documentation of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation
- Occasional road coverage may be offered and scheduled by mutual agreement
Required Qualifications
- Athletic Therapy or Physiotherapy certification, in good standing with the respective governing body
- Licensed and in good standing, or eligible to become licensed,
to practice in the province of Ontario
- Vestibular and Ocular Therapy training or certification, or currently completing this training
- BLS certification at minimum
- Current qualified liability insurance
- Solid communication, organization, and documentation skills
- Ability to comply with applicable health and safety requirements while on-site
- Candidate must be able to perform services on-site in Ottawa
- This engagement is based in Canada. Applicants must be legally entitled to provide services as an independent contractor in Canada. The PWHL does not sponsor work permits for this engagement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Acupuncture certification
- First Responder or CPR Level C certification
- Experience providing athletic therapy services in a high-performance or professional sport environment
- Ability to deliver services collaboratively with the team’s sports medicine staff
- Flexibility to deliver services on evenings and weekends
- Valid passport, for any road coverage accepted by mutual agreement

Independent Contractor Engagement
This is an independent contractor engagement, not an employee position. Services will be provided under a written Independent Contractor Agreement. The contractor is not eligible for PWHL employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plan participation, paid time off, or workers’ compensation coverage. The PWHL will not withhold income tax or CPP/EI from contractor payments.
