Dispatch / Operations Manager

Skyline Carriers Ltd. – Nisku, AB

Salary: $65,000 - $70,000 per year.
Job Type: Full time
Schedule: Monday–Friday, regular daytime hours + on-call phone availability as required

About Skyline Carriers

Skyline Carriers Ltd. is a growing transportation company based in Nisku, Alberta. We provide hotshot, dedicated, local and regional transportation services throughout Alberta and Western Canada.

We are looking for an experienced, highly organized and dependable Dispatch / Operations Manager to take ownership of our day-to-day dispatch and transportation operations.

This is not simply a desk dispatch position. We are looking for someone who can manage the daily movement of our fleet, coordinate drivers and customers, solve problems as they arise, and help ensure our trucks are being utilized efficiently and profitably.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage daily dispatch and scheduling of company trucks and drivers
- Coordinate multiple pickups, deliveries and time-sensitive hotshot jobs
- Assign drivers and equipment based on location, load requirements, availability and customer deadlines
- Communicate directly with customers regarding bookings, pickups, deliveries, ETAs and job requirements
- Monitor drivers and vehicles throughout the day using Geotab
- Respond quickly to schedule changes, breakdowns, delays and last-minute customer requests
- Keep trucks productive while minimizing unnecessary downtime and empty kilometres
- Review driver daily job sheets, timesheets, kilometres and fuel information
- Ensure drivers accurately record their hours and work performed for each customer
- Ensure job numbers, PO numbers, delivery information and supporting documentation are properly completed
- Work closely with administration/bookkeeping to ensure completed jobs are ready for accurate and timely invoicing

- Maintain organized dispatch and customer records
- Coordinate vehicle maintenance, inspections and service requirements
- Assist with driver scheduling, performance and day-to-day operational issues
- Monitor upcoming work and plan truck and driver availability accordingly
- Maintain strong relationships with existing customers
- Help identify opportunities to improve fleet utilization, routing and overall operational efficiency
- Handle urgent after-hours driver, customer and dispatch matters when required

After-Hours / On-Call Requirement

This is a full-time position with regular daytime working hours. However, transportation does not always operate strictly within regular business hours.

The Dispatch & Operations Manager must be reasonably available by phone outside regular working hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays, when required.

This does not mean you will be actively working 24/7 or receiving calls continuously. After-hours calls are generally limited; however, this position requires someone dependable who can answer and respond when an urgent customer request, driver issue or operational situation arises.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with:

- Previous experience in trucking dispatch, transportation, logistics, hotshot or oilfield transportation
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple trucks, drivers and jobs simultaneously
- Excellent communication and customer-service skills
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities

- Ability to remain calm and organized when schedules change unexpectedly
- Good computer and administrative skills
- Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of daily operations
- Understanding of trucking operations, driver hours and transportation documentation

Experience with Geotab, QuickBooks, Loadlink or similar transportation/dispatch software is considered an asset.

Compensation

$65,000 - $70,000 per year.

The performance bonus will be based on measurable operational objectives such as fleet utilization, dispatch efficiency, job documentation, customer service and overall operational performance.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who wants to take ownership of the dispatch department, not simply wait for instructions.

The successful candidate should know what every truck is doing, where each driver is, what jobs are scheduled next, which customers require follow-up and whether completed work has been properly documented for invoicing.

You should be comfortable making decisions, solving problems and keeping both drivers and customers informed throughout the day.
Must be able to pass a crim check, drug and alcohol test & have a valid and clean drivers licence and abstarct.

If you have transportation experience and enjoy running a busy operation where every day is different, we would like to hear from you.

Apply

Please submit your resume along with a brief description of your previous dispatch, trucking, transportation, logistics or fleet-management experience.
