Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled and creative Barista (All Rounder) to join our team. This is a part-time position with the potential for full time extension.

Candidates with flexible availability, along with relevant knowledge, experience, or education in baking, cake decorating, or barista work, will be prioritized during the selection process. Please note that experience in at least one of these areas is required for consideration. At this time, we are unable to consider applications from those without relevant experience.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about baking and cake/pastry decorating and coffee, with a commitment to providing outstanding customer service alongside serving café beverages and preparing desserts. They will also assist the team in maintaining cleanliness, offer support during busy periods, and demonstrate a strong understanding of food safety and handling practices.

As a Barista, we are seeking customer service-oriented individuals with excellent communication/speaking skills who share a strong passion for serving coffee, crafting handcrafted drinks, upselling, preparing desserts and sharing knowledge about who we are.

Duties

- Collaborate with customers to design custom cake orders based on their preferences and themes
- Ensure all food handling practices comply with health and safety regulations
- Package finished products attractively for display or delivery
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen area to promote a safe working environment
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries and ensuring customer satisfaction with cake orders
- Preparing, accurately weighing/measuring espresso and coffee
- Crafting and serving drip coffee and hot/iced beverages




- Attentive to flavor and quality
- Attentive to fine details and precision with the ability to take instruction/constructive criticism
- Ensuring cleanliness and maintenance of all work areas, utensils, dishes, and equipment throughout the shift
- Preparing simple batters and crafting certain pastries for pastry case
- Selling daily pastry case items
- Helping pastry chefs prep. pastries/cakes/decorate
- Taking payment through the point of sale system (i.e. Cash, Credit, Interac)
- Responsible for menu research and development throughout seasons/holidays

Skills

- Knowledge of food safety standards and proper food handling procedures
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment while maintaining quality standards
- Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients
- Experience in the food industry is preferred, particularly in roles related to baking or coffee
- Consistently offering professional and engaging service while providing support and assistance to the team
- Must be able to execute recipes consistently according to business standards in terms of taste and aesthetic
- Ability to focus attention on customer specifications while remaining calm and courteous at all times
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure




- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health/safety protocols including other policies/procedures
- Demonstrate a high level of professionalism when representing the bakeshop on or off-site
- Team leader and willing to lend a hand where needed

Education/Experience

- Prior experience is required
- Excellent technical/ingredient knowledge of coffees, drinks or recipes is required
- Customer service skills and excellent communication are required
- Qualified education/experience from certificates/diplomas is an asset
- A minimum of 1-year food service experience is an asset

Availability

- Open availability Monday-Sunday is required and shift times can range with start times as early as 10:00 AM through 8:30 PM
