Position Title: MWD Repair Technician

Position Location: Calgary, Alberta (shop location)

Reports to: VP Technology

Position Overview

The MWD Repair Technician is responsible for maintaining and servicing the MWD product line; this includes basic service of each module, identifying damaged parts and post service testing. This role also includes careful documentation in both digital and paper formats. The duties in this role can vary from simple repairs to complex problem solving and fault analysis.

Responsibilities

- Builds, services, and repairs MWD (Measurement While Drilling) tools according to technical specifications and standard procedures.
- Performs diagnostics and troubleshooting on faulty MWD components to identify root causes and execute repairs.
- Collaborates with team members to manage workload and ensure timely turnaround of tools.
- Maintains detailed repair records, including test results, replaced parts, and service notes.
- Follows strict safety protocols and wears required PPE while handling electronic and mechanical components.
- Keeps the work area clean, organized, and compliant with shop safety standards.
- Supports other areas of the MWD Lab during high workloads or urgent job requirements.
- Communicates effectively with manager providing updates on repair status and part needs.
- Uses diagnostic equipment and tools to test tool functionality and calibration post-repair.




- Helps manage and track spare parts inventory, reporting shortages or damaged components.
- Assists in the continuous improvement of repair processes, offering suggestions to reduce turnaround time and improve reliability.
- Cross-trains with other technicians to expand capabilities and increase shop flexibility.
- Responds to priority repair requests, adjusting tasks as needed to support operational demands.
- Demonstrates attention to detail and quality, ensuring all repaired tools meet performance and reliability standards before release.

Education, Experience, Technical Qualifications

- High School Diploma and Technical School Certification, Diploma or Degree required (related field)
- 1-3 years of related industry experience and/or training
- Requires a strong mechanical aptitude
- Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel)
