JOB DESCRIPTION: BAP (Before and After School Program) Coordinator

DESIGNATION: A part-time position of 20 hours per week that includes hybrid and on-site, some flexibility

SALARY: $30 per hour

PAY PERIOD: Bi-weekly

REVIEW: Annually

REPORTING: The BAP Coordinator reports directly to the Family Home Childcare Agency Director who reports to the Executive Director of the Kings County Family Resource Centre (KCFRC). The ED oversees the program.

Position Summary:

The Nova Scotia Before and After Program (NS BAP) facilitates a seamless day of childcare for children ages 4 - 12 who are attending school. It is a recreation-based program built on the principles of outdoor movement and play, intended to promote healthier and more active children. Childcare before and after the school day also helps build vibrant communities by enabling families to more fully participate in the workforce.

The BAP Coordinator plays a key leadership role in the development and delivery of high-quality Before and After School Programs (BAP). This position is responsible for the day-to-day operational activities of offsite BAP programs at two elementary schools: Wolfville Elementary and Port Williams Elementary, ensures compliance with all legislative and regulatory standards, as well as maintains appropriate staffing levels to provide consistent services to families.

The BAP Coordinator demonstrates sensitivity, maturity, and sound judgment when working with both children and adults. They are expected to uphold the Mission Statement, Personnel Policies, Code of Ethics, and program standards at all times.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

- Holds a current Nova Scotia Drivers License and has access to a reliable vehicle.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the mission, vision, and values.
- Proficiency with basic computer skills, including Windows 11 and Microsoft 365 tools.
- Early Childhood Education (ECE) Diploma or equivalent childcare experience (asset).




- Management or Coordinator experience in Childcare (asset).
- Experience with online registration systems (asset).
- Previous experience (asset).

Responsibilities include:

- Provide leadership in the planning, coordination, and delivery of high-quality BAP programs during their 20-hour work week.
- Ensure compliance with all legislative, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain safe, inclusive, and engaging environments for children, consistent with standards and provincial legislation.
- Recruit, schedule, supervise, and support staff to ensure adequate coverage and effective team performance.
- Communicate effectively with families, staff, schools, and community partners to foster positive relationships.
- Monitor program operations, including enrollment, attendance, and reporting requirements.
- Manage administrative tasks such as staff timesheets, program records, and incident/accident documentation.
- Support ongoing professional development of staff through training, feedback, and mentorship.
- Coordinate and deliver groceries/snacks to sites to ensure programs are well supplied or create a system to ensure this is provided.
- Uphold and model the mission, vision, and values in all aspects of work.
- Perform other duties as required to ensure the smooth operation of BAP programs.
- Other duties as required due to operational needs.

Work Setting:

- This position deals with multiple demands, deadlines and deals with the day-to-day interruptions.
- Work may include hybrid and on-site locations.
- Occasional evenings for team trainings and meetings may occur.
