Fibre Optic Cabling & Installation Contractor

Company: Coextro
Location: Southern Ontario — primarily the Greater Toronto Area
Job Type: Contract / Project-Based
Compensation: Quoted and agreed upon per building/project

About the Contract

Coextro is looking for an experienced Fibre Optic Cabling & Installation Contractor to assist with ongoing fibre infrastructure installations in condominium and apartment buildings throughout Southern Ontario, with the majority of projects located in the Greater Toronto Area.

This is not an hourly position. Work will be assigned on a building-by-building basis. Coextro will provide the installation plan and scope for each building, and the contractor will review the scope and provide a quote for completing the work. Once approved, each building will be treated as a separate contracted project.

We have multiple buildings requiring installation, providing an opportunity for consistent, ongoing work for a contractor or contracting team that can complete projects safely, professionally and according to the provided plans.

Scope of Work

Projects will involve both indoor and outdoor fibre-optic cabling in condominium and apartment buildings.

Typical work may include:

- Installing fibre-optic backbone and distribution cabling throughout multi-residential buildings
- Running backbone fibre vertically through buildings
- Running fibre from telecommunications rooms and common distribution points to individual condominium or apartment units
- Installing and routing fibre on the exterior of buildings where required
- Installing conduit, raceway and other cable-management systems
- Working with existing conduits and pathways
- Installing conduit and fibre vertically through buildings, including risers and other pathways
- Drilling through walls and other appropriate building surfaces to create penetrations for fibre and conduit
- Bringing exterior fibre and conduit into buildings at designated locations
- Bringing fibre into individual residential units
- Installing fibre splice boxes and enclosures at designated locations throughout the building
- Pulling, routing and securing fibre through conduits, risers and other pathways
- Routing individual unit fibre back to a central telecommunications room or distribution point
- Installing fibre patch panels and other termination equipment
- Fusion splicing fibre
- Terminating fibre using appropriate connectors and pigtails
- Splicing distribution and backbone fibre at designated splice locations

- Testing completed fibre runs and verifying connectivity
- Labelling cables, fibres, splice locations, panels and termination points
- Performing both indoor and outdoor installation work
- Working from ladders, lifts or other appropriate access equipment where required
- Completing installations according to the building-specific plans and scope provided by Coextro
- Maintaining clean and skilled work areas, particularly when working in occupied residential buildings

Required Experience & Skills

We are looking for a contractor with hands-on experience in fibre-optic and telecommunications cabling installations, preferably including experience in multi-residential buildings.

The successful contractor should be comfortable with:

- Fibre-optic cable installation
- Fusion splicing and fibre termination
- Fibre testing and troubleshooting
- Fibre patch panels and splice enclosures
- Indoor and outdoor fibre installation
- Conduit and cable pathway installation
- Vertical and riser cabling
- Drilling and building penetrations
- Working at heights where required
- Reading and following building-specific cabling plans
- Working in occupied condominium and apartment buildings
- Completing professional, neat and properly labelled installations

Experience completing fibre installations from the building entry point through to individual residential units and a central telecommunications room is particularly valuable.

Equipment & Tools

The contractor should have their own standard tools and equipment where possible.

Coextro will provide any specialized equipment or tools required for a project that the contractor does not have, including fibre splicing or testing equipment where necessary.

Contractors will not be excluded from consideration simply because they do not own all of the specialized fibre equipment required to complete the work.

How Projects Are Assigned & Paid

Coextro will provide a scope and installation plan for each building.

The contractor will review the project requirements and provide Coextro with a fixed quote for completing the building. The scope,

pricing and any specific requirements will be agreed upon before work begins.

This is not a per-hour position. Each building will be separately:

- Scoped
- Reviewed by the contractor
- Quoted by the contractor
- Approved by Coextro
- Scheduled
- Completed as an individual contracted project

Although projects are awarded individually, Coextro has multiple buildings requiring this work throughout Southern Ontario, primarily within the Greater Toronto Area.

We are looking to establish an ongoing relationship with a reliable contractor or contracting team. Contractors who successfully complete projects may be offered additional buildings on an ongoing basis.

What We're Looking For

We are particularly interested in contractors who can take responsibility for the complete physical fibre installation rather than requiring continuous supervision.

A building-specific installation plan will be provided, but the contractor should be capable of reviewing that plan, assessing the work required, determining the labour and installation requirements, providing a realistic project quote and completing the installation according to the agreed scope.

The contractor should be able to identify practical installation requirements or potential issues when reviewing a building and communicate those to Coextro before or during the project.

Reliability, workmanship, safety and cleanliness are important. Contractors will frequently be working in occupied residential buildings and must be able to work professionally around residents, condominium/property management staff and other contractors.

Work Location & Travel

Projects will be located throughout Southern Ontario, with the majority of work expected to be within the Greater Toronto Area.

Contractor must be able to travel to individual project locations as required. Each building's location will be provided before the contractor quotes and accepts the project.

To Apply

Please provide a brief description of your experience with fibre-optic, telecommunications and multi-residential cabling installations.

Please also include:

- Your experience with fusion splicing and fibre termination
- Your experience installing fibre in apartment or condominium buildings
- Your experience with exterior fibre and conduit installations
- Your experience installing riser and backbone fibre
- Your experience bringing fibre from a central telecommunications room to individual residential units

Pay: From $25.00 per hour

Work Location: On the road
