Title: Shop Foreman

Location: Toronto, ON

Payrate: $25 - $35

Position Summary

The Shop Foreman is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the production floor, ensuring projects move efficiently through CNC, assembly, finishing, packaging, and shipping while maintaining company’s quality standards, production schedule, and safety requirements.

This role focuses on production planning, problem-solving, continuous improvement, and leading the shop team to deliver projects on time, on budget, and built right the first time.

Production Leadership

● Lead daily shop operations.

● Coordinate workflow between CNC, Assembly, Finishing, and Shipping.

● Ensure every employee has explicit daily priorities.

● Monitor production schedules and adjust resources as needed.

● Identify and remove production bottlenecks.

● Ensure projects are completed according to schedule.

Production Planning

● Participate in the Daily 3-Day Production Planning Meeting.

● Ensure jobs scheduled for production are fully ready before release.

● Verify materials, hardware, drawings, and information are available.

● Coordinate labour requirements and production sequencing.

● Balance workloads across departments.

Quality Control

● Ensure all work meets Coletech quality standards.

● Perform routine quality inspections.

● Identify defects before products leave the shop.

● Reduce rework and installation issues.

● Ensure SOPs are consistently followed.

Team Leadership

● Supervise shop employees.

● Provide coaching and daily direction.

● Hold employees accountable for performance.

● Promote teamwork and communication.





● Train new employees on company procedures.

● Support continuous skill development.

Continuous Improvement

● Identify opportunities to improve productivity.

● Recommend improvements to production processes.

● Participate in Lean initiatives.

● Support implementation of standardized work.

● Assist in developing and improving SOPs.

Safety & Organization

● Maintain a safe and organized shop.

● Ensure equipment is properly maintained.

● Promote housekeeping and 5S principles.

● Report hazards immediately.

● Ensure employees follow safety procedures.

Communication

● Communicate daily with:

○ Estimators

○ Engineering

○ Contractors

○ Installation Team

○ President

● Escalate issues early.

● Provide production updates.

● Report risks before they become delays.

Daily Responsibilities

● Lead morning production kickoff.

● Review production priorities.

● Assign work to employees.

● Monitor progress throughout the day.

● Resolve production issues immediately.

● Verify quality before products move to the next department.

● Ensure jobs remain on schedule.

● Update production status.

Weekly Responsibilities

● Attend Weekly Production Meeting.

● Review completed jobs.

● Report production metrics.





● Review labour utilization.

● Identify recurring issues.

● Recommend improvements.

● Track action items to completion.

Performance Expectations (KPIs)

The Shop Foreman will be evaluated on:

● On-time production completion

● Production efficiency

● Labour utilization

● Rework hours

● Installation issues originating from production

● Material waste

● Employee productivity

● Shop organization

● Safety compliance

● SOP compliance

● Customer quality issues

Qualifications

● 5+ years of experience in custom millwork or cabinet manufacturing.

● Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

● Strong understanding of production processes.

● Ability to read shop drawings.

● Knowledge of CNC, assembly, finishing, and installation.

● Excellent organizational and communication skills.

● Strong problem-solving abilities.

● Commitment to quality and continuous improvement.

Pay: $35.00-$50.00 per hour
