Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate, dedicated, and knowledgeable Weekend Islamic School Teacher to join our educational team in Milton & Oakville. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children ages 4–14 years and a strong understanding of both educational practices and Islamic teachings.
The successful candidate will create a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment that helps children develop a strong Muslim identity, Islamic knowledge, and love for Allah and His Messenger ﷺ. The teacher should be able to adapt teaching methods to different age groups, learning abilities, and classroom needs.
Responsibilities
- Come prepared to teach assigned lessons for students ages 4–14, following the GIC curriculum and lesson plans.
- Deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons that cater to varying abilities and learning styles.
- Teach Islamic concepts in a way that is relevant, meaningful, and engaging for children.
- Help students develop their understanding of Aqeedah, Muslim identity, Quran, Hadith, Sunnah, Salah, Wudhu, Duas, Islamic manners, and the lives of the Prophets.
- Help students work toward and achieve their annual learning goals.
- Create a safe, welcoming, respectful, and positive classroom setting.
- Encourage student participation, questions, discussion, and collaboration.
- Manage classroom behaviour using positive and age-appropriate strategies.
- Work collaboratively with other teachers and GIC staff to maintain consistency across the program.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Prepare or adapt activities, worksheets, discussions, and projects as appropriate for the students.
- Use technology and other educational resources where appropriate.
- Attend staff meetings, training, and professional development sessions as required.
- Follow all GIC policies related to child safety, supervision, classroom management,
and professional conduct.
Qualifications & ExperienceEducational Qualifications
Candidates should have a relevant Canadian educational or child-development background. One or more of the following would be considered an asset:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field
- Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification
- RECE (Registered Early Childhood Educator) designation
- ECE (Early Childhood Education) diploma or certificate
- Montessori training/certification, including CASA Montessori or equivalent Montessori experience
- Educational Assistant (EA) qualification
- Child and Youth Care or a related qualification
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Child Development, Islamic Education, or a related field
- Other relevant Canadian teaching, education, or childcare qualifications
Islamic Qualifications & Knowledge
A strong foundation in Islamic studies and Islamic education is required.
Candidates with one or more of the following are encouraged to apply:
- Formal Islamic Studies/Alimiyyah qualification or equivalent
- Degree, diploma, or certificate in Islamic Studies
- Quran/Hifz education or recognized Quran teaching certification
- Certification or formal training in Tajweed
- Experience teaching Quran, Islamic Studies, or children in an Islamic school/madrasa setting
- Strong knowledge of basic Aqeedah, Fiqh, Salah, Wudhu, Quran, Hadith, Sunnah, Seerah, stories of the Prophets, Duas, and Islamic manners
- Ability to explain Islamic concepts accurately and in an age-appropriate manner
- A genuine commitment to helping children develop a strong, positive, and confident Muslim identity
Teaching Experience
- Previous teaching experience in a classroom, Islamic school, Montessori, school, or educational setting is highly desirable.
- 3–5+ years of teaching experience is preferred, although candidates with strong qualifications and relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience teaching children across different age groups, particularly ages 4–14, is an asset.
- Experience adapting lessons for different learning abilities and classroom needs.

Position Details
Position: Weekend Islamic School Teacher
Age Groups: 4–14 years
Locations: Milton & Oakville, Ontario
Schedule: Sundays, approximately 10:00 AM–1:00 PM
Employment Type: Part-time
Candidates may be assigned to a specific age group based on their qualifications, experience, and strengths.

Pay: $22.00-$30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 12.0 per week
