Cabinetry Manager
Custom Cabinetry / Millwork / Construction
Location: Edmonton Area
On behalf of our client, a well-established organization in the custom cabinetry and construction industry, we are seeking an experienced Cabinetry Manager to lead the performance of a cabinetry department from production planning through installation. This hands-on leadership role will oversee scheduling, shop and field operations, quality, safety, equipment, financial performance, and team development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own department performance across safety, quality, schedule, labour efficiency, material usage, and project outcomes.
- Build and maintain forward-looking production and installation schedules, anticipating capacity requirements, dependencies, and risks.
- Coordinate staffing, materials, equipment, site readiness, and shop-to-field handoffs with project stakeholders.
- Lead regular production meetings to review completed work, upcoming priorities, lessons learned, responsibilities, and potential obstacles.
- Maintain proactive communication with clients, designers, site supervisors, project leaders, department staff, and suppliers.
- Monitor installation progress and ensure commitments, changes, deficiencies, and follow-up items are documented accurately.
- Review estimated versus actual labour, materials, schedule, and rework; identify variances and implement corrective action.
- Support accurate job costing, billing, timekeeping, and completion reporting.
- Oversee inventory levels, purchasing controls, material availability, and supplier performance.
- Manage equipment and machinery maintenance schedules, service records, repairs, and safe operating readiness.
- Recommend equipment, machinery, and facility purchases or replacements as required.
- Lead and develop department supervisors, lead hands, installers,
and shop personnel.
- Partner with HR on workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and employee development.
- Establish and maintain department standards, checklists, quality controls, and operating procedures.
- Ensure tools, machinery, materials, and work areas are maintained and stored safely.
- Promote compliance with safety requirements and PPE standards; ensure incidents and near misses are reported, investigated, and addressed.
- Resolve escalated quality issues, damage, warranty concerns, client concerns, and scope-related issues.
- Drive continuous improvement in workflow, training, equipment, production processes, and shop-to-field coordination.
- Provide technical direction and hands-on support for complex cabinetry, finishing, manufacturing, or installation issues when required.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Cabinetmaker or related cabinetry/carpentry trade certification, or equivalent senior-level cabinetry and millwork experience.
- Progressive leadership experience managing a cabinetry, millwork, manufacturing, or construction-related department.
- Robust knowledge of cabinetry production, finishing, installation, woodworking machinery, and quality standards.
- Knowledge of wood finishing, staining applications, spray equipment, and spray-booth operation and maintenance.
- Experience leading supervisors, lead hands, senior tradespeople,
and installation teams.
- Demonstrated ability to manage production and installation schedules, suppliers, inventory, equipment, and competing priorities.
- Ability to interpret drawings, scopes, schedules, and job-cost information.
- Strong organizational, planning, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Sound judgment, practical problem-solving skills, and the ability to make timely decisions.
- Experience with digital scheduling, documentation, reporting, and performance-tracking tools; Buildertrend experience is an asset.
- Strong understanding of workplace safety, quality assurance, and continuous-improvement practices.
- Comfortable working across office, shop, and active construction-site environments.
- Ability to occasionally perform hands-on work and lift up to 50 lbs independently, with heavier lifting completed with assistance.
