In this meaningful role, you will advocate on behalf of Sagamok Anishnawbek children and families in child welfare matters, work alongside families to strengthen plans of care, and help ensure that children maintain connection to their culture, family, and community.Working with families, child welfare authorities, legal partners, community services, and Chief and Council, you will help protect the best interests of Sagamok Anishnawbek children while supporting families with respect, compassion, and culturally grounded advocacy.POSITION DUTIES:Advocate for Sagamok Anishnawbek children and families in child welfare matters, including matters before the courtsHelp ensure families understand their rights and remain informed about developments in their caseWork with families to develop plans of care and connect them with culturally appropriate supports and servicesAdvocate for family, community, customary care, and kinship options that preserve children's cultural and community connectionsParticipate in court, case conferences, Alternative Dispute Resolution processes, Circles of Care, and family conferences as requiredLiaise with child welfare agencies, legal representatives, community service providers, and other partnersMaintain accurate case documentation, meeting records,
and activity reportsProvide updates and information to leadership and Chief and Council as requiredContribute to Sagamok Anishnawbek's Koognaasewin work and evolving approaches to child and family wellbeingTERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:Ability to travel on short notice and participate in an on-call rotationAbility to work a versatile schedule, including evenings and weekends when requiredAbility to provide in-home, client-facing supportVulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check prior to employment and annually thereafterCPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtainValid driver's licence and vehicle for on-the-job useCommitment to confidentiality and respectful participation in cultural activities and ceremoniesQUALIFICATIONS:A university degree in a human services program is preferred; candidates with adiploma in Human Services, Paralegal, or a related field and significant relevant experience will also be consideredA minimum of two years of experience in child welfare and/or a related enforcement serviceExperience with legal services, family law, court services, and/or private legal serviceKnowledge of customary care, child protection standards, applicable legislation, regulations, guidelines, and policy directivesKnowledge and respect for Anishnawbek history, practices, teachings, language, values, and beliefsStrong advocacy, communication, relationship-building, negotiation, and de-escalation skillsThe ability to work respectfully with families and manage sensitive and confidential informationProficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet, and emailThe ability to understand and speak Ojibwe is considered a definite assetQualified candidates are invited to submit their cover letter, resumé and references to:Attn: Human ResourcesFax: (705) 865-3307We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.#J-18808-Ljbffr
