About the Client
We're seeking a compassionate and physically capable caregiver for Mark, a client living with his long-time roommate Laurie and three small dogs in Cardinal Heights. Mark is over 350 pounds and requires full mobility assistance using a mechanical lift with sling. He has bipolar disorder (unmedicated), experiences mood fluctuations and emotional lows, and may occasionally be resistant to care or send caregivers away early. He's diabetic, incontinent (wears briefs), and has pressure wounds on his heels and calf that are managed by visiting nurses. Mark uses a hospital bed with alternating air mattress and has limited ability to leave home due to his power chair no longer fitting through the doorway. His roommate Laurie recently fractured vertebrae in her back and can provide guidance but cannot assist with physical care.
Responsibilities
- Provide two-person transfer assistance using mechanical lift and sling for all mobility needs including bed-to-chair transfers and personal care.
- Assist with bathing, dressing, and brief changes.
- Prepare meals following diabetic-friendly guidelines.
- Complete light housekeeping tasks including kitchen tidying, laundry, and folding.
- Monitor and report any changes in pressure wound status or swelling in legs.
- Use gentle redirection when Mark becomes resistant to care or attempts to dismiss you early - offer to help with other tasks to maximize the visit time.
- Document all care provided and any instances of early dismissal requests.
- Work collaboratively with Laurie who can provide helpful context about Mark's routines and preferences.
What We're Looking For
- Physically robust caregiver (male or very strong female) capable of safely operating mechanical lifts and providing transfer assistance for a 350+ pound client.
- Experience with bariatric care, lift equipment,
incontinence care, and pressure wound awareness essential.
- Patient, calm demeanor with ability to manage mood fluctuations and emotional responses.
- Strong communication skills and ability to redirect resistant behavior professionally.
- Comfortable working in a home with three small dogs.
- Must be proactive in offering assistance throughout the full shift duration.
Schedule
Saturdays and Sundays, split shifts: 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM (some flexibility on evening timing). Consistency preferred - ideally the same caregiver each weekend or at minimum the same person for all Saturday shifts and same person for all Sunday shifts.

Three small dogs in home. Roommate Laurie lives with client but cannot assist with physical care due to fractured vertebrae.
