As a faith- and values-based organization, we hire and serve people of all backgrounds and walks of life - there is a place for everyone to belong here.Mission StatementThe Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.Job Description:Position Purpose summary:The Food Bank Worker assists in the organization and distribution of food bank donations.Accountabilities:Client/Program SupportConsistently demonstrates empathy and concern for clients/familiesProvides emergency food hampers to clients as directed by supervisorAssists in the organization, maintenance and general cleanliness of the Food Bank and/or Meal Centre, etc.Receives (and/or declines) and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations or purchased products following standard proceduresMay be responsible for ensuring safe handling of hazardous materialsArranges for discarding of items that are not usable in accordance with policyMay direct work of volunteers be assisting in the Food BankPerforms other duties as assignedAdministrative ResponsibilitiesRecords incoming/outgoing donations in proper logsMay assist in the maintenance of client files and statistical records,
as directedWritten and Verbal CommunicationWORKING CONDITIONS:A typical working environment is in a community ministries office, at a food bank and/or a warehouse.The performance of the job requires a frequent number of loading/unloading trucks, handing out hampers, receiving/sorting out donated or purchased goods, and occasional computer workAn incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:Dirt/Dust/Temperature variations in a warehouse environmentCramped working stationWork-related stressDealing with angry and abusive peopleMay have little to no travel requirementsEducation and Experience Qualifications:Education, Qualifications and Certifications: • The successful job applicant will have completed Public SchoolExperience and Skilled Knowledge RequirementsUp to three (3) months of prior related experience; including, experience working with multi-barriered persons.WHMIS trainingFood Protected trainingUniversal PrecautionsSkills and Capabilities:Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skillsAttentive listening, empathy to clients/volunteersAttention to occasional computer workStrong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.Compensation:The target hiring range for this position is $21.71 to $22.09 with a maximum of $22.46.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.The Salvation Army will provide reasonable accommodation upon request.
