Req ID: 226875Location: Central Zone, Dartmouth General HospitalDepartment: OPCZ DGH & TA's Recreation TherapyType of Employment: Permanent Hourly FT (100%) x 1Union: NSGEU Healthcare PositionPosting Closing Date: 5-Oct-26About the OpportunityReporting to the Program Manager and working under the direction of the recreation therapist and/or regulated health care professional, The Therapeutic Assistant (TA) is a member of the team-oriented health care team, providing support to patients, families and interprofessional team members through the incorporation of facilitation techniques, participation in leisure/recreation activities. The Therapeutic Assistant will work cooperatively and collaboratively with the interdisciplinary treatment team in carrying out the individual’s treatment program and communicating patient-specific information that will enhance the level of knowledge of the treatment team. Under the direction of the recreation therapist and appropriate, involved members of the health care team, TA’s support the patient’s plan of care to maximize the patient’s successful engagement, modeled within a recreation therapy framework.About YouWe would love to hear from you if you have the following:Diploma from a two year Recreation or Therapeutic Recreation ProgramCurrent CPR certification is requiredCurrent St. John Ambulance First Aid course preferredCurrent certification in Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) is an assetStrong leadership and interpersonal skillsBehavior Modification SkillsLeisure/Recreation related knowledge and skills to support patient care plans for transitionUnderstanding of multi-disciplinary treatment team approaches within acute care and along the continuum of careUnderstanding of patient populations in acute care with cognitive and/or responsive behaviorsAbility to work in a high pace acute care environmentKnowledge of community resourcesCompetencies in other languages an asset, French preferredPlease ensure your resume is up to date and includes all relevant education, experience, training, and certifications.HoursPermanent full-time position; 75 hours biweeklyCompensation and Benefits$24.75 - $28.36 hourlySuccessful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.What You'll Love About Nova Scotia HealthNova Scotia Health is more than the province's largest provider of health services; we're a team driven by excellence in health, healing and learning.
