Role: DataStage Developer
Location: Toronto, ON
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 4 Days Onsite
Experience: 6+ Years
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced DataStage Developer with strong hands-on experience in IBM DataStage, ETL development, Unix/Linux, Autosys, and Oracle. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, supporting, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing enterprise ETL and batch-processing solutions in a production environment.
Key Responsibilities
IBM DataStage & ETL
- Develop, enhance, maintain, and troubleshoot IBM DataStage ETL jobs.
- Work with common DataStage components, including stages, sequencers, connectors, and parameter sets.
- Understand and work with DataStage architecture, including conductor nodes, worker nodes, WAS servers, configuration files, and related components.
- Use DataStage Designer, Director, and basic Administrator Console functionality.
- Analyze existing DataStage jobs, source-to-target mappings, technical specifications, and design documents.
- Perform job monitoring, debugging, error handling, and batch support.
- Conduct basic ETL performance tuning and optimization.
- Support deployment and promotion of DataStage jobs across environments.
Autosys
- Monitor and troubleshoot Autosys jobs and batch schedules.
- Understand job dependencies, scheduling, control flows, and execution sequences.
- Investigate job failures and coordinate resolution with development and infrastructure teams.
- Perform reruns, dependency checks, and production troubleshooting as required.
Unix/Linux
- Use Unix/Linux shell scripting for automation, troubleshooting, and operational support.
- Perform file-system navigation, permissions management, and log analysis.
- Review and troubleshoot existing shell scripts, files, logs, and batch processes.
- Execute basic Unix commands for production monitoring and issue investigation.
Oracle Database
- Write and troubleshoot Oracle SQL queries,
including DML and DDL.
- Perform basic PL/SQL debugging and data validation.
- Validate source and target data during ETL processing.
- Troubleshoot database connectivity and ETL-to-database issues.
Production Support / BAU
- Provide L2/L3 production support for DataStage and related batch processes.
- Monitor production jobs and respond to incidents within defined SLAs.
- Perform incident management, root cause analysis (RCA), and problem resolution.
- Work with ticketing and collaboration tools such as ServiceNow and Jira.
- Participate in change management, deployment, impact analysis, and regression testing.
- Maintain production support documentation, runbooks, technical procedures, and knowledge articles.
- Coordinate with application, database, infrastructure, and business teams to resolve production issues.
Required Skills
- 6+ years of hands-on DataStage development and production support experience.
- Strong experience with IBM DataStage and ETL development.
- Good knowledge of DataStage stages, sequencers, connectors, and parameter sets.
- Understanding of DataStage architecture and administration concepts.
- Strong Autosys job scheduling and troubleshooting experience.
- Strong Unix/Linux and shell scripting skills.
- Strong Oracle SQL skills with basic PL/SQL knowledge.
- Experience with production support, incident management, RCA, and SLA-driven environments.
- Experience with ServiceNow/Jira, change management, and deployment processes.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced enterprise production workplace.
Nice to Have
- Experience in banking or financial services environments.
- Experience supporting large-scale ETL/data warehouse platforms.
- Knowledge of enterprise batch-processing and scheduling frameworks.
- Experience with performance monitoring and ETL optimization.
- Familiarity with Agile/ITIL-based production support processes.
