First Majestic Silver Corp. is a Canadian-based mining company with silver and gold operations located in Mexico and the United States. We own and operate four producing underground mines in Mexico: the Los Gatos Silver Mine (the Company holds a 70% interest in the Los Gatos Joint Venture that owns and operates the mine), the Santa Elena Silver/Gold Mine, the San Dimas Silver/Gold Mine, and the La Encantada Silver Mine, as well as a portfolio of development and exploration assets, including the Jerritt Canyon Gold project located in northeastern Nevada, U.S.A. ROLE PURPOSE
The Director, Environment & Permitting is responsible for leading the Company's environmental compliance, permitting, reclamation, and closure functions across all operations and development projects. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the role ensures environmental risks are effectively managed, regulatory approvals are secured and maintained, and environmental obligations are integrated into operational and business decisions to support safe, responsible, and sustainable mining activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Environmental Strategy & Governance
- Develop and implement the Company's environmental, permitting, reclamation, and closure strategy in alignment with corporate and operational objectives.
- Provide strategic guidance to the COO and senior leadership on environmental risks, regulatory requirements, and permitting matters.
- Establish and maintain environmental standards, policies, and management systems that support responsible and sustainable mining practices.
- Monitor environmental performance and drive continuous improvement across all operations.
Permitting & Regulatory Compliance
- Lead permitting and regulatory approval activities for operations, expansions, development projects, and closure initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permit conditions, and corporate standards across all jurisdictions.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of permit applications, environmental studies, technical reports, and regulatory filings.
- Monitor regulatory developments and recommend actions to address emerging requirements and business impacts.
Environmental Risk Management
- Identify, assess, and mitigate environmental and permitting risks that may impact operational performance, project schedules, or business objectives.
- Oversee environmental monitoring, reporting, audits, inspections, and compliance programs.
- Ensure environmental incidents, non-compliance matters,
and corrective actions are effectively managed and resolved.
- Support environmental due diligence activities for acquisitions, divestitures, and growth opportunities.
Reclamation & Closure
- Provide oversight of reclamation, mine closure, and post-closure planning activities across the Company's portfolio.
- Ensure closure obligations and regulatory requirements are integrated into life-of-mine planning and operational decision-making.
- Support the development and maintenance of closure plans, cost estimates, and financial assurance requirements.
- Promote progressive reclamation and responsible environmental stewardship throughout the mine life cycle.
Stakeholder & Regulatory Relations (Support Role to Sustainability)
- Support the Sustainability team in maintaining effective relationships with regulatory agencies, government authorities, Indigenous communities, local communities, and other key stakeholders.
- Participate in and support environmental, permitting, regulatory, and sustainability-related meetings, consultations, and engagement activities.
- Prepare or contribute to presentations, reports, correspondence, and other materials related to environmental performance, permitting activities, regulatory matters, and sustainability initiatives.
- Monitor environmental and regulatory commitments, requirements, and action items, ensuring timely follow-up and coordination with relevant internal teams.
- Support clear, transparent, and consistent communication on environmental and permitting matters with internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with operations, community relations, and sustainability teams to support compliance, permitting, and stakeholder engagement objectives.
- Maintain records related to environmental performance, permits, regulatory submissions, and compliance obligations to support reporting and regulatory requirements.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop environmental and permitting professionals across the organization.
- Manage departmental budgets, resources, consultants, and external technical specialists.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the Environment & Permitting function.
- Provide regular updates to the COO and Executive Leadership Team on environmental performance, risks, and permitting activities.
- Other duties as may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or environmental engineering or related degree.
- Preference for membership in good standing with a recognized professional regulatory body in British Columbia (Ex., P.Eng., RP Bio, P.Geo), with eligibility to provide qualified reliance under the Professional Governance Act.
- Fluent in English
- Spanish is an asset
- 8+ years of experience in managing environmental permitting and corporate sustainability initiatives, experience in Mining or Natural Resources sector.
- Previous experience with permitting processes in various jurisdictions, including baseline studies, environmental and social impact assessment, consultation, and coordination with internal design/project teams.
- Experience with external reporting (ESG, corporate responsibility, sustainability reporting etc.).
- Experience with environmental assessment, permitting and follow-up and monitoring.
- Strategic thinker with proven ability to collaborate and build consensus among groups.
- Internationally focused with a proven understanding of mining infrastructure as it relates to environmental compliance.
- Ability to consolidate and graphically illustrate environmental information for reports, memos and presentations and deliver those presentations in-person to diverse audiences, respond to their questions, and address concerns.
- Knowledge of environmental management systems, including hazard identification / risk assessment, controls for critical tasks, incorporation of environmental protection into design, site performance and environmental leadership, as well as regulatory compliance.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships with diverse individuals and exhibits strong influencing skills.
- Familiarity with Water and Load Balance studies and scenarios for mines.
- Able to implement strategies and actions within deadlines and/or lead consultants to complete tasks as required in addition to a proven history managing procurement and contract implementation with diverse environmental consulting service providers.
- Ability to solve complex problems and ensure consultant and site teams achieve corporate permitting and closure objectives.
- Knowledgeable of international engineering standards.
- Excellent writing, communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Broad familiarity with regulatory environments in Canada
- Advanced experience within MS Office, including MS Projects.

Salary Range: $220,000 to $245,000.
Expected Salary: Actual base salary is determined by factors such as qualifications, relevant experience, prevailing market conditions for the specific role, and internal equity.
