It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. TI has over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services. By incorporating the principles of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ), TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.
Job Responsibilities include:
Board Collaboration
- Responsible for leading TI in a manner that adheres to and achieves the organization's mission, as defined by the Board.
- Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board, providing them with all the necessary information in a timely and accurate manner including sharing updates, reports, and any relevant data that will enable the Board to make informed decisions.
- Supporting and enabling the Board's decision-making process. Prepare briefing notes, financial reports, and minutes of Board meetings to facilitate informed discussions and decisions.
- Responsible for preparing complex correspondence, reports, submissions, and significant presentations.
- Responsible for keeping the Board of Directors informed about major program and policy decisions, fundraising initiatives, and the organization's visibility.
- Responsible for reviewing and approving contracts for any services rendered by the organization.
- Ensures that all contractual agreements align with the governance direction set by the Board, enhancing accountability and risk management.
Financial Performance and Sustainability
- Responsible for ensuring adequate program funding and fundraising. This includes identifying and pursuing opportunities for funding, such as grants, sponsorships, and partnerships.
- Develop fundraising strategies to augment program funding and generate additional revenue streams to support TI's activities.
- Responsible for maintaining fiscal integrity and reporting. This involves preparing and submitting an annual budget to the Board of Directors, providing a comprehensive financial plan for the organization.
- Prepare and present to the Finance Committee financial statements that accurately reflect TI's financial condition.
- Responsible for effective fiscal management. This involves monitoring expenses, ensuring maximum resource utilization, and maintaining a positive financial position for the organization.
- Work closely with the finance team to develop financial strategies, implement cost-saving measures, and seek opportunities for revenue growth.
Organization Mission and Strategy
- Responsible for developing and executing organizational goals and objectives that align with TI's strategic direction.
- Responsible for overseeing the planning, funding, implementation, and evaluation of programs, services, and special projects.
- Responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of TI's programs. This involves providing guidance and support to program managers and staff, monitoring progress, and addressing any challenges that may arise.
- Lead strategic planning efforts to ensure that TI can successfully fulfill its mission in the long term. This includes analyzing internal and external factors, identifying opportunities and risks,
and developing strategies to adapt and grow in a changing landscape.
- Actively involved in enhancing TI's organizational prominence by being visible and engaged in the community. This includes collaborating with other professional, civic, and private organizations to build partnerships and leverage resources for the benefit of TI and the Inuit community.
Organization Operations
- Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent and qualified staff.
- Responsible for ensuring the effective administration of TI's operations.
- Develop and implement administrative policies and procedures that streamline operations and promote efficiency.
- Oversee the TI leadership team and maintain a positive, safe, and ethical work environment.
- Promote employee engagement and satisfaction, which in turn contributes to the organization's overall success.
- Responsible for providing personal coaching and professional support to the leadership team.
- Responsible for ensuring that TI's administrative policies and procedures are effectively communicated and implemented in a fair and consistent manner.
- Responsible for informing the Board of any governance issues that may arise from organizational policy and/or procedure changes, ensuring alignment with new legislation, good governance practices, and management practices.
Relationship Building
- Serve as TI's primary spokesperson to the organization's constituents, funders, media, and the public.
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with various organizations.
- Maintain excellent community and government relations by regularly communicating with stakeholders about TI's activities.
- Responsible for working towards the pursuit of TI's mission and goals, ensuring alignment and support from key stakeholders.
- Oversee the marketing and other communication efforts of TI.
- By effectively promoting TI's programs, services, and impact, the Executive Director will raise awareness and support for the organization's mission
Education, Qualifications and Skills:
· Undergraduate or master’s degree in business or public administration is preferred.
· At least five years of senior management experience in not–for-profit, multi-funded, program-based organizations is required.
· Five years of experience in successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results, successfully establishing relationships with influential individuals and organizations including funders, partner agencies and volunteers is required.
· Five years of experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors is required.
· At least three years of previous experience working in an Indigenous organization and/or with Indigenous communities is an asset.
· The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of Inuit culture, values, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and traditional practices.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong skills in planning, delegating tasks, program development, and task facilitation; building solid relationships with the stakeholders
· Excellent interpersonal skills to manage essential relationships with customers, business partners, and government agencies.
· Ability to effectively delegate tasks to the team while remaining actively involved in the organization's operations.
· Ability to confidently and effectively deliver presentations and speeches to large audiences. This includes engaging the audience, conveying key messages, and adapting the delivery style to the audience's needs.
· A strong work ethic with a high degree of energy and enthusiasm. This includes being proactive, taking initiative, and demonstrating commitment and dedication to the organization's mission and goals.
· Ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals and teams, both within and outside the organization. This includes the ability to build and maintain positive relationships, resolve conflicts, and foster a cooperative working environment.
· A solid understanding of financial management principles, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting. This includes the ability to develop and manage budgets, monitor financial performance, and make informed financial decisions.
· The ability to prepare complex correspondence, reports, submissions, and significant presentations under the direction of the Board
· The ability to analyze complex problems, identify solutions, and make informed decisions. This includes critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to evaluate different options and their potential impact.
· Proven ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary and multicultural team environment; and
· Fluency in English required, fluency in Inuktitut is an asset.

Salary and Benefits
- Salary range is $130,000 to $160,000Annually
